Delaware Gay/Lesbian Chorus Organizational Meeting: May 3
A new chorus is being formed to serve Delawares gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community. The new musical group will be launched with a series of no-audition sing-alongs in May 1999. Prospective members are encouraged to attend the first event on Monday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the First and Central Presbyterian Church, 1101 N. Market St. in downtown Wilmington. Delaware joins a growing list of cities and regions that are home to a gay and lesbian chorus. The chorus is being formed to provide a welcoming forum for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered singers to express themselves through music, to provide a social outlet, and to serve the broader needs of Delawares gay community through song. In forming a new chorus, gay and lesbian Delawareans are following the path blazed by over 180 similar groups worldwide who are members of GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses. With member choruses throughout North America and Europe, GALA offers training and leadership conferences, facilitates networking among its members, and serves as a resource center for choruses and individuals. It also produces the quadrennial GALA Chorus Festival. The next edition is expected to draw 55,000 participants to San Jose, California, in July 2000.
