This will mark the fourth time that the Chorus has appeared in Rehoboth. Concert proceeds will again benefit the Sussex County AIDS Committee (SCAC), a community-based HIV and AIDS service organization. According to SCAC President Murray Archibald, "The previous performances by the Gay Men's Chorus at the beach have been sold-out, and we expect the same level of excitement and enthusiasm this year." Now celebrating their twentieth anniversary, the 150 voice Gay Men's Chorus has performed to critical acclaim throughout the world. The ensemble was the first gay chorus to perform as part of a Presidential Inaugural and is a staple of the Washington choral music scene. Over the years, the Chorus has performed at the Kennedy Center, the National Theatre, the Warner Theatre, Constitution Hall, the Lincoln Theatre, and the Lisner Auditorium in Washington, as well as in major cities throughout the United States. Planning is just getting underway for this year's event. Ticket prices and sales locations are yet to be determined. If you are interested in volunteering to plan or help in other ways on the D.C. Volunteer Drivers Sought for AIDS Program The Sussex County AIDS Committee (SCAC) is looking for volunteers to serve in its transportation program for persons living with HIV infection or AIDS in Sussex County. The transportation program is one of the services most used by SCAC clients, and is the one most dependent on volunteer efforts. "In terms of square miles, Sussex County is one of the largest counties east of the Mississippi River," explains Sharyn Warwick, SCAC Transportation Coordinator. SCAC serves clients throughout Sussex County, and for those clients without access to a car, getting to medical appointments can be very difficult. "The program is very simple: SCAC matches up volunteer drivers with clients who need a ride." In 2000, the program provided 536 rides to 46 different clients. SCAC volunteer drivers logged in more than 28,000 on the road last year. Volunteers must be available during business hours, Monday through Friday. However, Warwick stresses that she works around everyone's schedules. "Even if you are only available one day a week, we can use you!" she says. Volunteers must provide their own car as well, but will be reimbursed for mileage expenses. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, call Sharyn Warwick, 302-644-1090, or stop by the SCAC office, 107 South Street, Rehoboth Beach.
