LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
The Way I See It |
by Steve Elkins, Editor |
Congratulations are in ordernot just for the winnersbut for all seven of the troupes who helped make this year's CAMP Rehoboth Follies a success. Though we've put away the props and costumes from the show, our rewritten version of "One," from A Chorus Line"Fun! That's what we are here for. Follies is all set to go..."still lingers in the back of my mind. The show was especially "fun" because of the variety of the acts, which included everything from an improv to the inauguration of Hillary Clinton. Though many peoplefrom cast to crewworked hard to make the 2007 Follies happen, the glue that held the show together was the amazingly talented Mr. Christopher Peterson, whose first act closing, by the waya spectacular rendition of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going,"nearly brought down the roof of the Rehoboth Convention Center. Christopher gives generously of his time and extraordinary talent to make the Follies a success. If you missed him at the Follies, there's still time to catch his show at the Atlantic Sands. For more on the 2007 Follies see InBrief and CAMPshots pages.
On the cover of this issue of Letters there is a detail from one of the images developed for the 2007 CAMPsafe campaign. This year's theme uses superheroes created especially for CAMPsafe by the illustrators at Blue Water Productions and designer Mary Beth Ramsey. On page 46, our CAMPsafe director Sal Seeley and marketing expert Sondra Arkin talk about this year's CAMPsafe campaign. With superheroes like Mr. Invincible and the Incredible Hunk, the postcards are sure to be a hit. My favorite is Captain Quicksilver. Collect them alland not just for the pictures, of courseeach one carries a message about safe sex. For information on HIV testing, CAMPsafe, or any of the other health related activities and programs of the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center contact Sal Seeley. As a Rehoboth Beach election judge I will, once again, be working the polls for the Rehoboth Beach City Commissioner's election on Saturday, August 11 at the Convention Center. As we've done for many years now, we asked all the candidatesPat Coluzzi, incumbent Patrick Gossett, and Stan Millsto respond to a series of questions for our Letters' Candidate Forum. The answers to those questionsincluding comments addressed specifically to the GLBT communityappear on page 30 of this issue. Don't forget to vote. Though I find it hard to believe, the summer is more than half over and now's the time we turn our attention to Sundance. Last week the Sponsor, Supporter and Host letters were mailed. As a quick reminderplease respond as soon as possible in order to be included on all the printed material for Sundance. All the Sundance forms as well as information about the different levels can be found and filled out online. Go to sundancebenefit.com and click on "Become a Host, Supporter or Sponsor" then click on the sign-up sheet you need. Tickets are also available onlineas well as the 2007 Sundance print by Murray Archibald, titled Heart Field in Motion. This winter is going to be an amazing time for the CAMP Rehoboth Community Centerand for our whole communityas we will begin Phase Two of the Community Center construction as soon after the summer as possible. Phase Two includes the complete courtyard renovation and landscaping, the construction of a large multipurpose room, a new kitchen, workroom, exterior information kiosk, and additional bathrooms. On page 6 Murray writes about the groundbreaking ceremony coming up on August 18 and takes another look at the plans. As I said in the last issue, those plans will be on display at CAMP Rehoboth after our current art exhibit ends on July 31though if anyone would like to see them before that we have them on site and are always delighted to "show and tell" all we know about them. For more information about Phase Two call the CAMP Rehoboth office. |
