LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
SPEAK Out |
What a great year...staying healthy, new church, and community center. Life is good living here in Rehoboth Beach. Whether seeing films sponsored by CAMP Rehoboth or just walking around town, it's a great place in large part because of you. The new Community Center is a testament to your dedication and to everyone who makes CAMP Rehoboth truly a place for all. John Sayres I had the pleasure and opportunity, along with other small business members in Rehoboth Beach, to view photos and to participate in a presentation sponsored by Bluewater Wind for the proposed off shore wind park. Bluewater Wind has been very eager to make wind power a reality, to provide clean electricity to our area, thus reducing the inherent risks of using fossil fuel as our only resource. With the situation in the Middle East, I hope you agree we need to think outside the box. I know it's hard to sell a new idea (just like the first car that replaced the horse and buggy, and now we have cars that park themselves), but we should not be afraid to look to the future. With wind, we would no longer have to depend on other countries and big business to regulate our electricity cost and restrict our access to power. Wind is clean and free. Also, the proposed location of the windmills would be remote, at a distance of twelve miles off shore in the Atlantic Ocean. The generation of energy would be uncontaminated, free of noise and oil spills, and be virtually invisible from the beach. The project would enrich the community not only by providing inexpensive and plentiful electricity, but the windmill foundations would serve as artificial reefs which, in turn, would attract more tourists to the area for diving and exploration. We need to stop talking about alternative power and vote for it. We only have one earth and we have to start doing something now before it's too late. We must make a stand, move forward and give something to the future generations, rather than blundering forward without any coherent alternative energy plan. Sussex County has a unique opportunity to be first to move a project with so many positive aspects from conception to reality. We should make this investment in our futures and those who come after to make it right. What better legacy could we leave those who come after us? With all the concern about climate change and protecting our environment, offshore wind generation is the right thing to do, and Delaware can lead other states along the coast to join the fight to save the earth. The first state can be first to have an off shore wind farm. Jerry Sipes |
