Connect I believe you'll agree. It is difficult not to spend some time thinking about the state of the economy lately. You can hardly pick up a newspaper, magazine or turn on a radio or television without being bombarded with talk of bear markets, bull markets, real estate sales, construction starts, and mortgage rates. Here in Rehoboth Beach we mirror the national news. Also, in a resort town many businesses rely on a healthy real estate market, both rentals and sales. From banks and mortgage brokers, attorneys and title companies to furniture and dcor stores, you quickly see the inter-relationships. Plus many businesses, including restaurants, lodging, and book stores, depend on tourist dollars to carry them through the year. Having talked to a number of merchants about this past summer's business, I believe it would be fair to say that tourists and locals were spending a bit more conservatively this year. If that is the case, I have even more reason to say "thank you" for your support throughout 2007. Whether we have little disposable income or quite a bit, it is each individual's decision how to spend it. I want you to know that we at CAMP Rehoboth appreciate each of you who chose to spend your dollars by supporting the Women's Weekend, Love, Follies, Splash, Sundance, and Starburst Gayla. Also, our sincere thanks to everyone who has made a contribution or continues to fulfill a pledge. It is your support that keeps us strong and viable in the Rehoboth Beach community. As the excitement builds towards the day that we will see our Community Center completed, we ask that you continue to do those things that keep our community a force within the greater Rehoboth Beach community. With constructions costs running more than was anticipated, your financial support is more needed than ever. As we begin construction of the new wing of the Community Center, please join your fellow community members in assuring our place in Rehoboth's future. Whether you choose to join the GEM Club with a pledge of monthly support (see response form below) or underwrite the cost of an item on the Wish List (opposite page), your financial support will help provide the much needed space for our community to gather. Bancroft Construction Company has been meeting with the City of Rehoboth Beach on construction issues. A final variance meeting to be held on November 26 will assure that we obtain the last of our permits. If you have been in the Courtyard during the past two weeks you may have seen any number of items being cleaned out of CAMP Rehoboth's storage/kitchen and backyard in preparation for the heavy equipment to move in. For information on writing letters of support for the variance being requested by the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, contact me or Steve Elkins at 302-227-5620, or by email at beth@camprehoboth.com or steve@camprehoboth.com. |
