A Summer to Remember I can't remember a summer I've enjoyed morefrom the weather to the great variety of happenings around the area. Though I can't do anything about the weather, should it not be to your liking, I do have some arts-related recommendations for you which should tickle your fancy! All locations are Rehoboth Beach, unless otherwise noted. THEATRE Clear Space Productions (in residence at Cape Henlopen High School, 1250 Kings Highway in Lewes; 302-644-3810; ClearSpaceProductions.org) Sussex County's only year-round professional theatre company presents the final two performances of Oliver! at the Schwartz Center (2 State Street; Dover). Call the Schwartz Center for tickets: 302-678-3583 Milton Theatre (110 Union Street in Milton; 302-684-3400; miltontheatre.org) presents Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream from July 24 through August 2. Anything with the King and Queen of the faeries and a character named "Bottom" should catch the average reader of this column's attention. Tickets: $18 Adults, $15 Students/Seniors. The last installment of their Golden Age of Cinema Series sponsored by Delmarva Power will be The Wizard of Oz on Saturday, August 8 at 2 and 7 p.m. Admission is free, though donations are greatly appreciated. The following day they host A Midsummer's Garden Gala from 3-7 p.m. at the 1905 home of Libby Zando and Bob Blayney (owners of Zando Designs of Milton) located at the head of the Broadkill River. Light refreshments, music, conversation and laughter will be served. Ticket proceeds and a percentage of art show sales will benefit the venerable Milton Theatre. Tickets: $75 Theatre of the Arts (20 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-9310; RehobothBeachTheatre.com) brings lesbian comic Judy Gold to our fair city on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and Thursday, Aug. 6 with her show 25 questions for a Jewish Mother, and trust me, you don't have to be Jewish or a mother to enjoy this show. Judy has won two Daytime Emmy Awards for her work on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. The show, which is also a book (co-written with Kate Moira Ryan), is based on a series of interviews with more than 50 Jewish mothers across the county. ART GALLERIES (Galleries marked by an asterisk are part of the Mosaic Collective of Galleries and host the Second Saturdays: Destination Art Walk on August 8 from 6-9 p.m. Light refreshments are served in each location. Visit mosaicrehoboth.com for more information.) *AerieArt Gallery (45 1/2 Lake Avenue and 70 Rehoboth Avenue in First St. Station; 302-227-5376; rehoboth.com/ aerieart) with original oils, pastels and watercolors by gallery artists Larry Horowitz, Edward Grant, Howard Schroeder, Jack Lewis, Denise Dumont, Victor Letonoff, Lesley McCaskill, Martha Spak, Karin Snoots and many others. The Lake Avenue gallery will present the new exhibition, Coastal Colors by Great Falls, Virginia artists Mollie Lynch Vardell and Adrienne Kralick through September. The First Street Station location features another new exhibition, Surface to Space by Salisbury University professors Alison Chism (glass), Paul Flexner (painting), Dean Peterson (photography), Jinchul Kim (painting), James Hill (sculpture) and Brooke Rogers (drawing) through early September. *Amandeline Galleries (403 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-226-0330; amandelinegallery. com) displays artwork themed around the local Rehoboth Beach Farmer's Market and features still-life works depicting garden wonders. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Farmer's Market. *Detail Gallery (54 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-8170; shopdetail.com) features a great collection of mixed media works by a selection of wonderful Detail gallery artists. Affordable, fun and eclectic artwork for the home. *Gallery 50 (50-A Wilmington Avenue; 302-227-2050; 50contemporaryart. com) hosts an opening reception for a Group Show on Friday, August 7 from 6-9 p.m. that will include new works by Washington DC artists Brian Petro and Gloria Cesal, Delaware artist John McGiff (recipient of the 2004 Delaware Division of the Arts Grant Award for emerging artists), Oregon artist Michael Matarese as well as Charlottesville artist Michael Fitts through September 2. Tempus Fugit, works by Rose Minetti, continues through August 19. *Heidi Lowe Gallery (328 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-9203; heidilowegallery@ gmail.com) hosts Between Beautywith works by five Swedish artists all of whom use the format of jewelry to investigate the idea of beauty. Through September 8. *Kennedy Gallery (140 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-3903; kennedygalleryrehoboth.com) celebrates the works of artist, Aubre Duncan. Aubre uses unique watercolor techniques to create captivating images. Meet Aubre at their Open House on Saturday, August 8, from 5-8 p.m. as part of MOSAIC's Destination Artwalk. *Panache Gallery (129-B Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-9229; panachegalleryde.com) is displaying large colorful organic forms in blown glass. These sensual pieces celebrate the yin and yang of glass; the fluidity and the rigidity. Each piece is unique and signed by the artist. Panache Gallery hosts an art walk reception serving light refreshments from 6-9 p.m. Peninsula Gallery (520 E. Savannah Rd in Lewes; 302-645-0551; peninsula-gallery.com) opens a new showStill.......Lifeon August 1. This is the last of their themed exhibits and features six very different artists, Nancy Brown (w/c), Michele Byrne (oil), Roger Dellar (oil), LeAnn Kalita (oil), Victor Letonoff (oil) and Chad States (photography). The show contains traditional still life works, figurative paintings, people-scapes, and more. The exhibit can be previewed on their website. *Philip Morton Gallery (47 Baltimore Avenue; 302-727-0905; philipmortongallery. com) features new, original paintings by Anita Peghini-Raber beginning Friday, August 7 with an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Through August 20. Rehoboth Art League (12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres; 302-227-8408; rehobothartleague.org) gears up for their 36th Annual Members' Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Exhibition on August 8-9 and 15-16. Sponsored by PNC Bank, the show will run 10 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine on all four days. This is one of the largest and best outdoor art shows on the east coast and features 120 artists and artisans from near and far. Live entertainment is featured in addition to the wonderful art. There is no admission charge and free parking/free shuttle service will be available at the Little League field on Holland Glade Road, beyond the Tanger Outlets-Seaside. *Thunderbird Gallery (200 Rehoboth Avenue; 302-227-1900; thunderbirdshop.com) is pleased to have their second one-man show by Thom MillsapJuly 31 and August 1. Thom's original acrylics are creative and evoke a superb beach presence. Thunderbird invites you to watch Thom paint from 2-4 p.m. with a reception from 7-10 p.m. *Ward Ellinger Gallery (CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard, 39 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-2710; wardellinger.com) features Re: Connections, new works by Sondra N. Arkin, August 1-16. Meet the artist receptions on August 1 and August 8. Also featured: Abstract Expressionism in different mediums by artist Ward Ellinger, along with selected American craft works by other artists, including glass, metal and pottery. MUSIC All Saints' Episcopal Church (18 Olive Avenue; rehoparishmusic@aol.com) presents Bach on the Boardwalka series of Thursday afternoon organ recitals at 12:15 p.m. featuring organists Craig Campbell, George Bayley, Thomas Tibbetts and Betsey Von Dreele. Through August 13. SPECIAL EVENTS Comic/writer/raconteur Bruce Vilanch will appear at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Saturday, August 15. Tickets: $100 for table seating that includes a post event "Meet and Greet," as well as general admission tickets: $75, $50, and $25. Sponsorships are also available.
