Sam was in a fix. His business had gone bust and he was in serious financial trouble. He decides to ask God for help.
He began, "God, please help me. I've lost my business and if I don't get some money, I'm going to lose my house as well. Please let me win the lottery." Lottery night came, and Sam didn't win. Again Sam prays, "God, please let me win the lottery! I've lost my business, my house, and I'm going to lose my car as well." Lotto night comes and Sam still has no luck. Once again, he prays, "My God, why have you forsaken me?? I've lost my business, my house, and my car. PLEASE just let me win the lottery this one time so I can get my life back in order." Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the heavens open. Sam is confronted by the voice of God Himself: "Sam," says God, "meet Me halfway on this. Buy a bloody ticket." We've rolled the beat of the dance floor, the fun of Follies, the hubbub of the Black and White Beach Ball, and the action of the HeART auction into the Whole Lotta Love Weekend extravaganza where everyone is a winner. For the last few issues, I've been pretty focused on explaining the LottoHEART event on Friday night, I admit it. But I'm really looking forward to the Love Dance on Saturday night. It isn't the same family night that Sundance is, but nonetheless, it gives me great joy to still be shaking it, singing along, surprised that lyrics live somewhere in a brain increasingly porous. Admittedly, I'll be mostly relieved to have made it through to Saturday. But I love that we've occupied the same patch of dance floor real estate for so long that friends know where to find us; I adore that I can see so many people I know who have grins plastered on their faces; I imagine friends who are no longer with us hovering around when the light gets just right; I rejoice at who we'll see unexpectedly; I enjoy checking out who's new in town. Well, that's the long and short of it: you can't win if you don't buy a bloody ticket. And even though the Whole Lotta Love Weekend won't save a business, house or car, it will support CAMP Rehoboth and bring you joy at the same time. Take a chance on Love. And you will be a winner. Friday Night: Over 200 5" x 7" postcard-sized works of art will be distributed on Friday, July 3rd when CAMP Rehoboth hosts the LottoHEART Game Show as part of the Whole Lotta Love Weekend. The lively auction-lottery-show, hosted by the amazing Christopher Peterson, will include the art lottery, a live auction, and surprise door prizes in addition to open bar, food, and entertainment. Doors open at 6 p.m., program begins by 7 p.m. Come early to rank your choices and snag the best seats.Saturday Night: The Love Dance (8 p.m. to 2 a.m.). DJ Julian Marsh and lighting by Paul Turner bring fireworks indoors. Come early and avoid the crowd; come after fireworks and escape the traffic; stay late and cheer the last song.... Can't come? Don't worry, you can still support CAMP Rehoboth and score some art by specifying that your ticket be a Blind Date ticketall the artists are doing a second work that will be wrapped and random to go in the Blind Date pool. A preview party honoring the artists will be held at CAMP Rehoboth (37 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach) on Saturday, June 27, from 4-6 p.m. The preview is free and open to the public.
