Got an Hour or So? Like to Chit Chat?
With Memorial Day officially here, it's time to open the CAMP Courtyard information kiosk. We're looking for volunteers who would be responsible for giving out information, and selling tickets to events. If you have time, and would like to help, call Kathy at 302-227-5620. Looking for a Few Good Families Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is looking for a few families to join the ranks of Habitat homeowners. To qualify, a family must live or work in Sussex County, have a gross income of between $17,000 and $35,000 annually, be willing to provide "sweat equity" (work on a Habitat home), be able to pay a no-profit, no-interest mortgage and currently live in housing that is substandard, overcrowded or overly expensive. At this time, possible Habitat home locations include Georgetown, Greenwood, Laurel, Milford, Seaford, and Selbyville. Ten homes are scheduled to be built this year to house qualified applicants. Habitat for Humanity works closely with its partner families. The future homeowners will be given classes to prepare for home ownership; training on construction and home maintenance, a sponsor to help them through the process, and tools to use when building their home. Grammy Winner Pam Tillis Headlines Markell Party Grammy Award-winning country star Pam Tillis will headline Gov. Jack Markell's Sixth Annual Summer Bash on Saturday, June 6, in Milton. The event will benefit the Food Bank of Delaware. The Food Bank distributes nonperishable foods to individuals and offers the products to feeding programs and qualified agencies. The bank also offers food for distribution to qualified food pantries, soup kitchens, day-care centers, youth programs, senior centers, homeless shelters, residential shelters, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes and faith-based organizations. Gates will open, and home-cooked gourmet treats will begin being served at noon, and Pam Tillis' concert will start at 1 p.m. Markell and surprise guests will address partygoers at 2 p.m. In addition to the entertainment, a ticket to the bash includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are $25 per person plus a donation of a nonperishable food item. Children under 16 get in free.The party will be at 313 Walnut St., Milton. Tickets required. Memorial Day Service on Georgetown Circle The Sussex County Memorial Day Celebration will be held on The Circle in Georgetown, Delaware on Sunday, May 24th at 1:30 p.m. Event Co-sponsors are the Georgetown Kiwanis Club and the Korean War Veterans Association. Master of Ceremonies will be Town Manager Gene Dvornick. The keynote speaker is retired Rear Admiral Donald Sturtz, USN. Wreaths will be placed in tribute to all those who died in WW II, Korea, Viet Nam, and the recent conflicts to protect our freedoms. Sharyn Warwick Wins WOW Award Sharyn Warwick was the recipient of a WOW Award from the Delaware HIV Consortium in recognition of her work coordinating the Sussex County AIDS Walk held each October. CAMP Rehoboth Dedication set for Saturday, May 30 Join CAMP Rehoboth on May 30 for the dedication of the new wing of the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. Volunteers Issue Call for Sponsors Be sure to check your mailbox (or see page 33) for information on this year's Whole Lotta Love weekend which includes LottoHEART and the Big Love Dance scheduled for the July 4th weekend in Rehoboth Beach. Letters Takes a Ride on Crown Princess From the looks of things, Julie Dickson, Helene Guilfoy, Sandy Roberts, and Dee Duddy found room in their luggage for Letters from CAMP Rehoboth as they cruised the eastern Caribbean on the Crown Princess. The cruise was in celebration of Julie and Helene's twentieth anniversary. You can see more photos on the CAMPshots pages of this issue. CAMP Courtyard Guardian Angels Rainbow Thumb Club coordinator Ward Ellinger is pictured accepting a comprehensive landscape maintenance manual from Ron Bass. The manual, compiled by Ron, will assist the CAMP Rehoboth Rainbow Thumb Club team in their work maintaining the vibrant open space which has become such an important part of the CAMP Courtyard. |
