Help Program Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival |
Between now and mid-September, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will be offering many opportunities for film-lovers to view and critique works that have been submitted for prospective entry in the 1999 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival, November 10-14. "We anticipate over 300 submissions this year, from which we'll select about 100 films," said festival director Barry Becker. Last year the inaugural film festival presented 50 feature and 50 short films from 15 countries in an effort to provide film fare that appeals to every segment of the resort area's diverse population.
According to Becker, the review phase consists of filmmakers sending their films in on videotape to be viewed and rated by interested groups at the film office in the Rehoboth Mall. Full-length and short films are submitted in a variety of genres, including narrative, documentary, experimental and animation. "We're offering a rare opportunity for locals to see what filmmakers around the world are doing," Becker adds, "and to put their finger on what distinguishes a good film from a not-so-good film. We can't guarantee that every entry is another Smoke Signals, but we can promise that you'll have a good time with people who are passionate about film and enhancing the cultural landscape of our community." This year's festival schedule includes four days of film screenings at the Rehoboth Mall Cinema, the Movies At Midway, and several big film "extravaganzas" will be held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Film review is held every Monday through Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Film Society office in the Rehoboth Mall (across from Radio Shack) and Monday and Thursday nights in private residences. The Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts. |
