A few of the local women have a joke they play on one another... who can be embarrassed the most on their birthday. For example, back in April, Lori Kline (Lori's Cafe) was the subject of humiliation. A blow up doll was purchased, dressed in unmentionables, and hung above the window of her cafe (very high and unreachable) with the song "I've Got You Babe" playing continuously on a cassette player. Which brings us to last Thursday. Karen Gebhart, better known as "Geb," was celebrating her birthday with about 8 friends at Plumb Loco. I got a call at the office to hurry down with my camera because it was payback time. Lori persuaded Rebecca James to dress as a belly dancer and put Gebs initials all over her body. So with Patsy Clines "Crazy" playing on the juke box, Rebecca made her entrance and danced seductively to Geb's table. She pulled her from her seat with a silk scarf, as the crowded restaurant cheered her on. All I can say is poor Geb. Rumor has it that Lori is leaving the country on her next birthday. Two friends from New York, Amy O'Sullivan and Brooke Morris, decided to come down for the weekend. This was Brooke's first visit to Rehoboth, which meant we had to do the tourist thing and try to go everywhere possible in 48 hours. So in the Reader's Digest version... Saturday we had breakfast at Our Place, went shopping and bought a Fossil watch at L.A. Connection, some cool stationary at The Paper Trail, where we also got a FREE pen with our purchase just for mentioning their ad in CAMP Rehoboth, then went to Cafe Papillon for one of those irresistible French pastries baked on the premises. Now it was time to get ready for the HRC Federal Club Cocktail Reception hosted by Kathleen Nilles and Rita Carey. The turnout was amazing, just as the HRC Dinner Captains Party the week prior, hosted by Mary Snider and Mike Bartlett. The incredible assortment of hors d' oeuvres were donated by Lynn Foraker and Dawn Lester of The Beach House Restaurant, who by the way are making plans for their second annual auction to benefit breast cancer in the fall. After the party, most of the crowd decided to have dinner at The Beach House, and dance to the sounds of DJ Darin, who captivated his audience with a variety of popular dance mixes. He will be back on Friday, Aug. 20 and 27 by popular demand. We then headed to the Renegade where Amy and Brooke fell in love with Fantasia, who looked fabulous in a white cotton dress trimmed in a delicate lace accented with gold accessories. They found her so adorable, that Brooke invited her to New York for a shopping spree in the garment district and a night on the town in Manhattan. We danced til 4 a.m. to some awesome new music that DJ Jeff Harrison brought back from his week in Provincetown with James Warren. You can't even imagine the wild stories those boys are telling about that trip. All I know is at least a dozen people made reservations to go back with them next month. The girls spent Sunday looking at real estate and talking to Cheryl Normandeau about mortgage rates. It seems they enjoyed their stay so much, they want to get a place of their own.
