GET YOUR JOLLIES AT THIS YEAR'S FOLLIES
It's Follies time, folks! And for those of you who haven't bought your tickets yet, you may just miss out on one of the most fun-filled, memorable evenings of the summer. Imagine ten troupes performing outlandish, witty, musical skits for a crowd of hundreds. And imagine live auction items and high bidding. Throw in a few cocktails and Chris Riss as the hosting MC, and just about anything is bound to happen. This is one night you will regret missing. Don't settle for stories on the beach the next day. Buy your tickets now before they're gone. Tickets are $25 each. The Follies are Saturday, July 27 at 8 p.m. at the Rehoboth Convention Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. Stop by the CAMP Rehoboth office at 39 Baltimore Avenue, or call in your order by credit card at 302-227-5620. SETTING OUR SIGHTS ON SUNDANCE The official title for this year's Sundance benefit is In the Celestial Circle of the Sunburst Rainbow. (I dare anyone to say that 10 times really fast.) Sundance promises a two-night event at the Rehoboth Convention Center starting with silent and live auctions on Saturday, August 31 from 7-10 p.m. with open bar and food provided by the Blue Moon. Then, on Sunday, September 1, from 8 p.m.-2 a.m., the main dance event will set your feet in motion and includes an open bar all night. For tickets, sponsorships and more information, visit www.SundanceBenefit.com, or call 302-227-5620. HOUSE PARTIES There's been no shortage of house parties lately. 228 Country Club's "Attack of the Clones" wasn't an easy act to copy while 312 Bayard's "Queens of the Screen" set a whole new standard for the Rehoboth themed house party. We're not sure how Justin Nelson, Chance Mitchell and company pulled it off, but they certainly deserve their own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Glen Casper's "Beach Party" at 111 St. Lawrence was an impressive dirty cocktail event and thanks to Randy Marshall and Tommy Gibson's amazing talent, their back yard at 330 Beech was once again transformed into an all-night dance venue for their annual "Full Moon" bash. On Saturday, August 3 from 5-8 p.m., pay tribute to ABBA while drinking Absolut Vodka at 114 Hickman's "ABBAsolut" party. And on August 10 from 5-8 p.m. get ready for the return of John Klenert's "Squirt Gun Party" at 3 Country Club. Afterwards, Cliff Lassahn, John Kaplan and crew are hosting "The E! True Hollywood Story" but the location, time and getting an invite for this event is as secretive as a Julia Roberts wedding. But stay tuned for more! POODLE AWARDS ANYONE? Back in '95, the Golden Poodle Awards dazzled Rehoboth Beach. It was an amazing night of amateur skits interspersed with hilarious "best of" awards. It's hard to believe it was eight summers ago. Ever since then there have been talks of bringing the show back, updating it, making it more accessible to the general public. Finally, that vision has become a reality with this year's first annual CAMP Rehoboth Follies. Unlike it's predecessor, however, the Follies will auction some very fine items in between each skit as opposed to honoring a Rehoboth socialite with a title. But if the awards were to continue today, they might look a little something like this... BEST RECLAIM TO FAME Chris Riss, for masterminding the new and improved Follies. Buying an ocean block beach house with hubby Heinie didn't hurt either. Enjoy it while it lasts, Margot...Eve's not far behind. BEST FEMALE ILLUSIONIST Cliff Lassahn, whose recent incarnations include Bo Peep and a mind-blowing Jessica Rabbit. Runners-up in this category include rising star Eric Morrison and Philly's Christine Embon, a.k.a. Nurse Cracker, who-according to my sources-is, in fact, a gay man and has been all along. QUEEN OF THE DIVAS Kathy Weir, for being the CAMP Rehoboth MVP. Without her, we wonder if The Beach Book would ever get done. Or LOVE. Or Follies. Or Sundance. 'Nuff said. MOST LIKELY TO BECOME SUPERMAN Jack Strogus, for his ability to leap tall sandcastles in a single bound (including a few beach-goers) all in the name of saving beach umbrellas tumbling towards Dewey in heavy wind. BEST/MOST INFORMATIVE ARTICLE Bill Pullen, for "Making it Crystal Clear" (Letters, June 28, 2002). Finally, someone who's been there and back takes a bold stance on the ever-growing problem of methamphetamine ("crystal") use and abuse. It took guts to write that article. The question is, will the target audience open their eyes and ears long enough to read and hear what was said?
