LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
Speak Out |
A friend of mine insisted that I attend a meeting of "The Retreat", a gay men's support group sponsored by the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Project. Well, I ended up going for over a year and became a better person for it. While it is centered on gay issues, any subject may be discussed.
I'm much stronger in my gayness, even going so far as to help bring charges of homophobia against the Rehoboth Beach Homeowner's Association which helped lead to the major change of instituting new bylaws and bringing new people onto the board. I feel better about my gayness and myself to the point of not feeling the need of going to the meetings anymore. But the changes are permanent, and new friends were made there. My special thanks to the facilitator, Peter Robinson, for his insights and interventions that made the meetings so productive. Don Voth Editor's note: "The Retreat" meets at CAMP Rehoboth, 39 Baltimore Avenue from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday. Who will win the elections this year in Delaware? Will they support issues that are important to the gay community? What does the future hold for the GLBT community in Delaware? Help the Delaware Liberty Fund "Forecast the Future of Gay Rights in Delaware" at a gala summer party and fundraiser to be held on Saturday, August 3rd from 7 to 10 p.m. The event will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. Help thank those Delaware legislators that supported HB99. Local fortuneteller and palm reader, Maria, will help guests forecast things to come. Special guest star, Miss Lulu Temptrice and her Tempting Tenors, will enable us to remember the past by performing cabaret tunes by Cole Porter and others. Come celebrate the present with the help of pianist Michael Helman and enjoy gustatory delights provided by Our Place Restaurant and Garden Patio of Rehoboth Beach. Also meet Delaware legislators, Mark Aguirre, and Human Rights Campaign representatives. Tickets are $100 per person in advance and are in limited supply. Proceeds will benefit the Delaware Liberty Fund, the state's only GLBT political action committee. The Delaware Liberty Fund seeks to survey candidates in Delaware political races, endorse those who support equal and civil rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons, announce these candidates in a voter guide, and make financial contributions to their campaigns.
