CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project Making Progress |
by Maggie Shaw |
It's a wonderful feeling when women in our community come together for support and to educate themselves so that they can improve their lives. The CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project recently held a series of health information and screening sessions at the CAMP office on smoking cessation, bone density and blood pressure. Clinicians were on site to provide the most up-to-date information to attendees. All three sessions, as a whole, were well attended and represented a diverse group of women from the community at large. Several women told us that the results of their tests were the reasons that they made positive changes in their everyday lives. We hope to schedule more screenings in the near future on other health topics of interest. Please call or e-mail us at CAMP Rehoboth if you have a particular health topic that you would like to have presented. Additionally, we are working with Delaware Health and Human Services and the Mautner Project to bring information, health services and screenings to our third annual Women's Conference.
The countdown is on! The Women's Conference on Financial, Health and Legal issues is right around the corner. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12, 2003. It promises to be our best ever! Our keynote speaker will be Mary LoVerde, a nationally known motivational speaker, who has made several appearances on Oprah and consults with a number of Fortune 500 companies. Mary will touch your heart and your soul with her message about staying connected with yourself and with each other. The Honorable Ruth Ann Minner, Governor of the State of Delaware, will also grace us with her presence and with her inspiring words about tackling women's issues. From funny to serious, from meditation to movement, the workshops this year have it all as you can see by the following titles: Phases of a Woman's Life; A Woman's Guide to Starting Her Own Business; Singles Success and Survival; Healthy Alternatives; From the Inside Out; Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Others; Oh, My Aching Back; Medicine Wheel; Basic Home Repair for Women; Women and Heart Disease, The #1 Killer; Ask The Lawyer, and Swing Dance. And, of course, don't forget the wonderful evening entertainment that is planned for the conference weekend. Suzanne Westenhoefer, the zany and wild, nationally known comedienne, will perform on Friday evening and will have us rolling in the aisles. On Saturday evening, after the conference, we'll be mesmerized by the beautiful voices and music of Olivia recording artists, Barbara Higbie and Teresa Trull. To top it all off is the Women's Brunch at Celsius Restaurant. It will be tough to beat a delicious brunch in one of Rehoboth Beach's finest restaurants for only $10 plus gratuity. It will also be tough to beat the company! For all of you who attended our "Volunteer Meet and Greet" party, we haven't forgotten about you. Actually, many of you are already involved in various activities. For those of you who aren't yet, we're diligently working on the volunteer list to match up individual interests with Women's Project activities and plans. We'll be contacting you soon. Work has begun on the Women's Project page that will soon be part of CAMP Rehoboth's website. In the meantime, we'll continue to keep you up-to-date on all of our activities through articles in future issues of Letters and through special mailings so we can all stay connected!
