Rare Access to Never Exhibited Schroeder Paintings
Coastal Frameshop and Gallery announces an exhibition of previously unseen works by Howard Schroeder, the late great artist who resided in Lewes, Delaware. Given rare access to the paintings held by the estate of the prolific, much loved and respected artist, the gallery has selected watercolors and mixed media works concentrating on landscapes and seascapes of the region in addition to a particularly radiant studio still life. Schroeder's inimitable stylea dancing brushstroke of saturated color over an architectonic compositional structure coupled with his bold overlay of dark markingsalways creates visual drama and rediscovers the wonder in everyday scenes. His joy in the act of painting is contagious and invests even the smaller of works with incredible energy and drive. (Shown above - Ocean City Docks by Howard Schroeder) This not-to-be-missed exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday, May 24 from 3-6 p.m. and will continue through June 19, 2003. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday. For further information call 302-227-8704. Seng Exhibits New Works at Our Place Restaurant An exhibition of new photographs by Seng (Eakapotch Thantanacharoen) will be on display beginning Friday, May 16, at Our Place Restaurant and Garden Patio. Seng's exhibition is entitled "La Kawn," an English transliteration of the Thai word for drama. Over a thousand years ago, lavish productions of music, drama and dance, were produced to tell tales from the Indian epic poem, the Ramayana, and were performed for the King and his court. The fantastic characters and fanciful costumes that were used as a part of these dramatic spectacles inspired the artisans who later created the sculpture and other architectural decorations for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, Thailand. Seng has photographed these images from this magnificent Buddhist temple and then hand-tinted many of them to try to recapture the pageantry of the original "La Kawn" performances. Our Place Restaurant and Garden Patio, 37 Baltimore Ave. can be reached at 302-227-4143. Cloud 9 Exhibits Works by DC Artist Charlie Jones Cloud 9 Restaurant, located at 234 Rehoboth Avenue, is currently exhibiting paintings by Washington, DC artist Charlie Jones. Jones' paintings are inspirations derived from diverse cultures, customs, colors, and textures experienced through his travels. He paints with layers of vivid color combinations, energetic textures, and dynamic compositions rich with bold and subtle transitions, taking the viewer on an abstract journey. (Shown is Treehouse 25 by Charlie Jones) "In my paintings, I attempt to relive my experiences through the process of abstract expression while delving into the unknown of my subconscious, which will remain forever impacted by my travels and adventures," says Jones. As an emerging artist, paintings from Jones' first two exhibits in 2002 landed in homes in DC, VA, MD, CA, NYC, London, as well as in the United States Capitol Building.
