LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
Speak Out |
On Tuesday, May 18 over 80 citizens came to the Mulberry Street Caf in Milton to hear my official announcement that I am seeking the 36th Representative District seat. Included in that group were Lt. Gov. John Carney and State Treasurer Jack Markell who introduced me. Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf was also there to endorse me. I want to thank all who attended for their very enthusiastic support!
Also I want to thank the Mulberry Street Caf for their delicious hors d'oeuvres and drinks, the news media, the photographers, the planners, and everyone else who made the event a notable success. I am confident with such enthusiastic support that our cause will be successful in November! Brian Dolan Candidate for 36th District House of Representatives Thank you to CAMP Rehoboth for your generous donation for the April 21 Men of Mautner event! I was truly overwhelmed by the show of support from our brothers in the community. As the national lesbian health organization, the Mautner Project is committed to serving our sisters in need. We couldn't be happier to have increasing numbers of men who support the work we dofor their sisters in the LGBT community, for their female relatives, or in appreciation of the women who helped fight the AIDS pandemic. Thus, we thank you for your support and hope you'll stay involved! We hope everyone will plan to attend our annual Gala Dinner, Dance and Auction on Saturday, October 2, 2004. This is our premier event, and if you haven't attended before, you're missing out. If you have, this year's should be better than ever. To reserve your space, or sign up to be a sponsor or table captain, please contact our development diva Meghan Duffy at 202-332-5536 or email mduffy@mautnerproject.org. Kathleen DeBold Executive Director The Mautner Project All the smokescreens against Delaware's sexual orientation anti-discrimination bill HB 99 have drifted away like, well, smoke. "It would lead to gay marriage." Attorney General Jane Brady has stated HB 99 would not affect Delaware's anti-gay-marriage law. "It would create special rights for a lifestyle choice." Delaware law already grants these rights based on religion and marital status, which are true lifestyle choices, whereas sexual orientation is not. "It would violate religious belief." 97 Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and other clergy members have signed the Spiritual Leaders' Statement in support of sexual orientation equality in Delaware. "It would be bad for business." State Treasurer Jack Markell in his 5/23/04 News Journal op-ed stated sexual orientation equality would be advantageous for Delaware's economy. "It would recognize gays for the first time as a protected class." Too late, since an executive order signed by then-Gov. Carper and renewed by Gov. Minner already recognizes the status of sexual orientation in state employment. "It would increase HIV/AIDS in Delaware." A virus, not equality, spreads HIV. So with all the objections demolished we are left with the only two real reasons for opposing HB 99: willful ignorance and blatant bigotry. Douglas and Corey Marshall-Steele |
