Wedding Bells for Ann & Kaye |
After 25 years of married life, Ann Black and Kaye Wachsmuth decided to go to Canada and make it legal. With an element of civil disobedience, they packed their car and headed north to Toronto.
The two were married on May 17 at 4 p.m. by the first openly gay Justice in Ontario, Harvey Brownstone (pictured above with Ann and Kaye). Their witnesses, Ross Munro and Heather McGregor entertained the couple afterwords with a reception at Heather's home in Toronto and dinner in Toronto's gay village, with some gay friends invited to join the celebration. The couple honeymooned at Niagra on the Lake, and Corning, in the Finger Lakes region of New York before taking a scenic drive back to Rehoboth Beach. The icing on their wedding cake was a reception in Rehoboth given by Cindy Johnson, Judy Turner, Cathy Benson and Susan Jimenez at Cindy and Judy's home. Justice Brownstone travels to the United States regularly to address groups on a variety of issues of concern to the GLBT community in an effort to alleviate fears that we pose a threat to any institution, especially marriage.
