News from the Rehoboth Beach Film Society
Let the Film Reviews Begin! (7:00 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays (June 18 - August 14) in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway.) This year the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (RBIFF) will celebrate its tenth anniversary (November 711)! Reaching this milestone is a major achievement, especially when learning that other film festivals in larger communities have folded. From the RBIFF's inaugural year, the community has embraced this event in so many ways. The efforts and generosity of sponsors, volunteers, Film Society members, and attendees have contributed to the Festival's success and continued growth. The RBIFF is now recognized as a premiere, cultural event in the mid-Atlantic region. Planning for this year's Festival has been underway since last year's Festival ended. This year's celebration will feature celebrity guests! In addition, some program changes will provide more screening opportunities for everyone. Admittedly, the last two sentences were teasers. Arrangements are still being finalized so stay tuned for more information! One way to begin getting excited about this year's Festival is to participate in the summer film review sessions. One of the unique characteristics of the RBIFF is that it does integrate community input as part of the film selection process. Yes, your opinion does make a difference! If you are a film enthusiast, you will enjoy seeing a broad scope of films from emerging directors. The summer film review sessions also provide opportunities to learn what factors determine a film's suitability for inclusion in the Festival. Perhaps the best part of each review session is the stimulating discussion that Festival Program Director Joe Bilancio facilitates. Everyone has a chance to share their perspective. Listening to diverse interpretations serves to enrich the overall film viewing experience. Beginning June 18, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will host reviews every Monday and Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway. Each session will include the screening of a short and a documentary or a feature, time permitting. Reviewers are asked to complete a rating form and are encouraged to join in the post film discussions. Please understand that film titles and descriptions will not be provided in advance as we want everyone to arrive with an open mind for a new experience. A word of caution: Preview copies of films may be of lesser technical quality and may also contain display messages (i.e. counters) to discourage improper usage. The skill level of the filmmakers will vary and so viewers will have a greater appreciation of the preparation required to program a quality festival. The screenings are open to the public and admission is a suggested $1.00 donation which helps with print traffic management expenses. Thank you in advance for helping the Film Society plan for the tenth anniversary Film Festival.
