The Paws that Refresh: Art, Clothing, Day Care, Grooming, and a Pick-Me-Up
Letters is going to the dogs. Or so it seems. No less than four dog-centric businesses (some with feline connections, too) are hawking their wares and services in this fine publication. For starters, there's the whole Mirabelle thing. If you don't know her name now, you'll be on best buddy terms with this adorable Boston Terrier very soon. That's because she's the mascot and canine entrepreneur behind Detail, a gallery for the home at 117 Church Street at Rehoboth Avenue Extended. Detail is owned by Mirabelle and her two canine companions and is operated by collage artist Michael Muller and Tom Boeke. While the mission of Detail is to offer a retail experience that showcases unique artwork and merchandise inspiring customers to create "a gallery for the home, " the whole place has been put on the art world map by one little dog with a lot of big adventures. According to Muller, Mirabelle is one crazy Boston Terrier whose personality and new line of Mirabelle merchandise is making a name for Detail. In fact, it's as much Mirabelle's popularity as the selection of art and accessories that drives the store's great reputation. "The Adventures of Mirabelle" are the creation of collage artist Michael Muller. Michael is one of the 25 artists represented at Detail and MDH Finearts of NYC. In the cards and colorful prints, Mirabelle stars in Muller's playful collageshighlighting the lovely pup's penchant to swim with the mermaids, get a new hairdo with her sister at the Laughing Poodle Salon, or stroll iconic Rehoboth Beach. If you love Wegman's Weimereiner prints, you'll adore Mirabelle! A personal favorite of this reporter is the "Mirabubble" print and the hint of the occult in "There's a Bone in My Future." And speaking of the future, a Mirabelle book is on deck, with Rehoboth's own pooch all set to make her literary debut. Detail has been open just over a year now, with the art (24 artists are represented in addition to Muller, including some Rehoboth favorites like Sondra Arkin and Ward Elliniger) and accessories displayed creatively in a home-like environment. The artwork includes paintings, drawings, collages, mixed media, and photography that reflects interesting and edgy choices for customers. Visit shopdetail.com to check out the shop and all of Mirabelle's adventures in art. Another Rehoboth retail emporium, this one geared to the dog's tastes as well as their human companions is Critter Beach, newly moved to a large store at 156 Rehoboth Avenue. A fixture on Baltimore Avenue for about a decade, Critter Beach has doubled its size with its move to the Avenue and offers absolutely everything the chic puppy or kitty could want. Shop owner Tracy Rossetto often shows up to work with his own canine brood in tow, so it's a pet friendly atmosphere from the get-go. From pet couture to pet furniture to a veritable cornucopia of pet toys, Critter Beach has the right stuff for Fido and friends. It's the ultimate shop for pampered pets, specializing in gourmet treats, designer collars and leads, and grooming products and giftware. The best part is that you don't have to leave home without your furry friends. Critter Beach welcomes canine and feline shoppers to enjoy the experience of retail therapy along with their humans. To find out more, contact critterbeach.com. Good grooming is always a hallmark of our stylish Rehoboth animals and A Wizard of Paws Pet Grooming Salon at The Shops of Camelot along Highway One is the place with the awesome reputation. The Wizard can handle all dog breeds and has a comfortable ambiance for its canine customers. Owner Greg Kellas has been grooming animals for several decades and he has recorded a video series providing a "no nonsense" approach to pet grooming. He has trained groomers who have gone on to open their own successful grooming establishments. So whether it's time to get the kids groomed or you have an interest in becoming a professional groomer yourself, A Wizard of Paws stands ready to assist. Check out the schedule of classes, the schedule of grooming appointments or the available merchandise at A Wizard. Contact them at wizardsofpaws.com And what would a resort town be without a pet resort? Why should people have all the fun? Doggies at the Beach, a new establishment along Route 24 (just past McDonald's) at the Family Dollar Plaza is just the spot for your pooch to relax and be pampered while you are at the beach, away for the day or otherwise engaged. Doggies at the Beach is a 2,400 square foot indoor cage-free doggie day care facility so canines can have fun in a clean, safe environment. Plus, to give their humans peace of mind, Doggies at the Beach has three doggie cams available so customers may watch their pet play all day. Doggies at the Beach offers playtime with staff and other clients, making certain that playmates match clients in size and temperament. There are areas for large clients and small clients, and even relaxing private suites. The facility has a climate controlled environment with fresh spring water and purified air. At all times the doggies have human companion supervision for safety. Of course, all doggies receive daily individual doggie walks. All staff is certified by the American Red Cross Pet First Aid certification class, and they are knowledgeable about how to interact with doggies to ensure they have a positive, fun visit. In addition to daycare, customers can make an appointment for Doggie Training and puppy socialization). And nobody flunks. There is a 100% Guarantee or doggies take the class again for FREE. Check out all the incredible services and take a peek at the doggie cam at www.doggiesatthebeach.com. And last, but certainly not least important is an incredibly helpful service called 4 Paws Poop Patrol. Imagine not having to do your duty with the doody.
