News from the Rehoboth Beach Film Society
Another Take at the Beach The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is partnering with CAMP Rehoboth to host the fifth series of Another Take on Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18. This series will feature two films that are so new, they are both still on the Film Festival circuit. When you read the descriptions below, please do not think that each one is a gender-oriented film. Both films are a must-see for everyone. The cinematography in The Gymnast is spectacular! You will be mesmerized by choreographed aerial acts which are beautifully enriched when viewed on the full screen. East Side Story offers everyone a healthy dose of humor, which can set the tone for a light-hearted weekend. The Gymnast Thursday, May 17 (7:00 pm) (2006, runtime: 96 minutes, not rated, but recommended for mature audiences) Jane Hawkins is a massage therapist trapped in a loveless marriage to a man who does not share her desire to have children. A former gymnastics Olympic hopeful, she forever laments the injury that abruptly ended her career. A chance meeting with a former teammate inspires her to accept an invitation from an enthusiastic gymnastics trainer to perform in a Cirque du Soleil-style aerial fabric act. As she begins practicing each day with the beautiful Serena, their working relationship evolves into a romantic one. As Jane's passions for life and gymnastics are reawakened by these new experiences, she is confronted with a choice that could change her life forever. The Gymnast was selected as the audience favorite of numerous GLBT festivals from Los Angeles to New York. Gorgeous cinematography of the risqu aerial routines highlights the strenuous physicality of the acrobatics performed by actresses whose prior work experiences include choreographing shows for Cher and Madonna. East Side Story Friday, May 18 (7:00 pm) (2006, runtime: 88 minutes, not rated, but recommended for mature audiences) Diego has always worked with his grandmother in the family Mexican restaurant in East Los Angeles, while submerging his dreams of opening his own nouvelle cuisine restaurant in a different city. Diego passes time in a secret relationship with the sexually conflicted Pablo. When new neighbors Wesley and Jonathon move in, Diego's life takes a different turn as urban gentrification invades the traditionally Mexican neighborhood. Wesley makes an effort to become a part of the neighborhood, while Jonathon, fearful of his neighbors, is anxious to move to a more culturally compatible area of the city. Diego and Wesley cannot deny their attraction for each other, and they begin an unwise relationship. Pablo retaliates by proposing to Diego's promiscuous sister Bianca. More than ever, Diego would like to make a fresh start in a new town, but loyalty to his grandmother makes leaving almost impossible. Both screenings will be held in the Upstairs Screening Room at the Movies at Midway. Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased by calling RBFS at 302-645-9095 ext. 1. Seating is limited and advanced ticket purchase are encouraged. Last Call For Art House Theater! Before going on summer hiatus, the Art House Theater will be screening The Namesake (through May 10) and The Lives of Others (May 11 May 24). The Lives of Others was the 2006 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year. |
