My name is Lauren Wright and I’m the communications director with Foster Care to Success. We are the oldest and largest national provider of college funding and support services for foster youth in the nation. Perhaps you’ve heard of us, but it’s more likely that you haven’t—until now.
We used to be called the Orphan Foundation of America and we’ve been around for over 30 years. Today, we announced our name change to Foster Care to Success (FC2S), as well as the launch of our new website. This accompanies a national campaign we’ve kicked off to change the lives of older foster youth.
We hope you’ll look into the many challenges foster youth face (you can visit our new website for more info on that) and that you’ll keep us in mind as a valuable source if you decide to cover the issue. Nationally, over 25,000 foster youth “age out” of the foster care system annually. Only half will graduate from high school, and less than 10 percent will ever complete college. Sixty-one percent of our scholarship students, however, complete a degree program within five years.
We’re an expert on foster youth aging out. We have connected with over 50,000 foster youth to help them navigate the transition from foster youth to college student or working adult. And we can help you connect with them too.
Contact me if you’re interested in finding out more.
