Episcopalians are debating the efficacy of gay priests and same-gender marriage ceremonies, while Southern Baptists are calling for a boycott of Disney because of their refusal to discriminate against gays, and we search for the right response to the religious right.
In an effort to help balance the negative news about gays and religion, the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will host a Town Meeting on "Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders, and Religion" at the Metropolitan Community Church of Rehoboth Beach (on Rt. 271-Glade Road), Saturday, August 16, from 4 - 6 p.m. The meeting is free and open to everyone.
The keynote speaker, Reverend Meg Riley, represents the Unitarian Universalist Association as Director of the Washington Office of Faith in Action, and co-chair of the National Advisory of And Justice For All. Joining her on the panel will be Meredith Hunter, President of PFLAG-Sussex County chapter; Judith Armstrong, of the Diamond Edge Foundationa sexual orientation advocacy and education group, and David Patterson, the pastor of MCC Rehoboth. Following the meeting, there will be a time for discussion and refreshments.

Four More for Sondheims Broadway!
Sondheims Broadway, the cabaret entertainment which played to sold-out houses and great reviews in June will be back on stage at La Rosa Negra in Lewes for four more performances, Aug. 15, 16, 22 and 23.
"We decided to present the show just to see if there was interest in late-night entertainment here, and we were overwhelmed," says Bob Cirelli, owner of La Rosa Negra. "We had to turn people away. And the comments we had about the show were just terrific!"
Originally booked for just three nights in June, the response prompted Cirelli to ask the performers to juggle their busy theatre schedules to squeeze in two more weekends at the beach.
Sondheims Broadway, directed by Fay Jacobs, and starring Margaret Allman, Eric Peterson and Eloise Ullman, is a collection of songs from the early career of Broadway lyricist/composer Stephen Sondheim, arguably the most inventive wordsmith in Broadway history. Some of his most popular show tunes, including songs from Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Company are included in this musical revue.
"This is the perfect show for the beach," says director Jacobs. "The songs are witty and clever, and when they are taken out of context, in a more relaxed cabaret-style setting, you can have an awful lot of fun with them." Jacobs is pleased to be bringing her latest effort to this area, where she spends weekends, year-round.
Sondheims Broadway: Fri. & Sat., Aug. 15, 16, 22, 23. Shows: 10 pm-Friday, 10:30 pm-Saturday. Tkts: $10 includes special cabaret lite fare items or desserts. Call: 645-1980. La Rosa Negra Restaurant, 128 Second Street, Lewes.
