A collaborative journal on life in Lewes, the first town in the First State. |
Several Lewes and Rehoboth residents and visitors showed up for the first-ever Lewes Lips Rotating Happy Hour, held on July 22 at Gilligan's along the Lewes Canal. The group gathered in the "S.S. Minnow" section of the bar (part of the old ship overlooking the canal and harbor) and drank toasts to the setting sun. In addition to those pictured, others who dragged in late, after the photographers were toasted (or do we mean toast?), included The Buttery's Bartender Betty Schiedenhelm. Betty, David Owen, Michael Hunter, and Bob Long apparently "toured" several more Lewes bars after leaving Gilligan's, all the while discussing hair styles and wedding gowns. (The gowns weren't for Betty!) Many of the rest stumbled over to John Mini & Robert Perri's house for a nightcap(Did we mention that happy hour sometimes runs long in Lewes?). After having "a few more," Tommy Llewellyn (NEVER the designated driver) was caught having a few more than 40 winks before being awakened for his ride home with Ken Sugarman in Rehoboth Beach. An August happy hour is in the works at another location. Great news! We now have e-mail. If you have ideas for future columns or would like to comment, send suggestions to LewesLips@hotmail.com.
