Rehoboth Beach, Delawhere?
A gem of a queer resort! Despite four seasons of weather, Rehoboth is always hot!

Along the Atlantic Ocean in often overlooked Delaware (Delawhere???), sits Rehoboth Beach, a welcoming community for LGBTQ+ visitors and residents. This year-round, resort and beach town boasts “Room for All” as both its motto and reality.

The LGBTQ+ community and its allies find a joyous diversity here with Rehoboth Beach offering a delightful mix of young and not-so-young, families and single folks, city-dweller weekenders/vacationers and full-time residents.

This “Nation’s Summer Capital,” long known by Washington, DC legislators and staffers as a seaside escape, draws visitors and residents from all over the East Coast, strengthening its claim as “The Nation’s LGBTQ Getaway.”

Rehoboth and the surrounding beach areas have hundreds of adventurous and classic restaurants (many LGBTQ+-owned) which led to the area’s title as The Culinary Coast. With James Beard-Award winning chefs and Food Network Bake-Off stars, the area dining choices rival big city superstars.

But don’t worry! Rehoboth has the requisite hot dogs, salt water taffy and funnel cakes (along with arcades and amusement park rides) for boardwalk and beach time. And there are plenty of family restaurants, classic seafood places, and ice-cream and desserts to dazzle.

There are upscale hotels, Victorian and beach-chic B&Bs, rental cottages and condos, plus exceptional queer-owned and queer-friendly shops and galleries to lure visitors. Add in a year-round theatre company, a variety of drag shows, lots of LGBTQ+ bands and entertainers and it’s paradise.

Baltimore Avenue, where the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center is located, is the hub for LGBTQ+-owned restaurants, shops, clubs and bars. Although the LGBTQ+ vibe resonates all over downtown Rehoboth with great restaurants, shops and entertainment everywhere you look.

Head to one of Rehoboth’s gorgeous beaches—Gordons Pond in the state park (dogs on leashes welcome!), or Poodle Beach at the South end of the Boardwalk. You can hold a book but you’ll never actually read—too much eye candy.

Memorial Day, July 4th weekends are a blast, and the end of the summer Labor Day SUNFESTIVAL extravaganza is legendary, as is the spring Women’s FEST – both feature nationally known entertainers dance parties to rival Key West or P-Town.

The spectacular CAMP Rehoboth Block Party happens each October, and Halloween here is an LGBTQ+ jubilee. Winter offers a flood of restaurant discounts and deals, theater, art, concerts and events.

From arcades and dolphin watching to dazzling epicurean delights and a colossal queer sensibility, Rehoboth has it all – with room for all.

Spend some quality time here and you will never say “Delawhere???” again.
