Suzanne Westenhoefer Featred Lesbian/Gay Party in Hershey |
On Saturday, November 13, 1999, central Pennsylvania's gay and lesbian community will sponsor its fourth annual Fall Achievement Benefit (FAB '99) at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The dinner/dance raises money for area lesbian and gay organizations.
The guest speaker this year will be Suzanne Westenhoefer, nationally known lesbian comedian and Lancaster native. Suzanne's successes include appearances on HBO's Comic Relief VII, Showtime's sketch comedy series In Thru The Out Door, ABC's Politically Incorrect, her ACE Award nominated HBO comedy special and the comedy recording Nothing in My Closet But My Clothes. In addition to Suzanne's witty remarks and a wonderful meal, there will be dancing to the Headliners and a silent auction with donations from businesses and individuals throughout the area. FAB '99 will also honor some person or persons who have made significant contributions to the local gay and lesbian community. FAB '99 begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception with Suzanne Westenhoefer. The main event begins at 7 p.m. and includes dinner and dancing to the Headliners. Tickets to the main event only are $65.00 and to the main event and cocktail reception are $125.00. The event is black tie optional. An important aspect of this year's event is that all net proceeds will be matched, dollar for dollar, by a grant from the National Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership. Proceeds from the event will support, as they have in the past, the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard of Harrisburg and other gay and lesbian organizations, such as past recipients P-FLAG of Central Pennsylvania; the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network's efforts to promote understanding of and the prevention of violence against gays and lesbians in schools; and Bi-GLYAH, a support group for gay and lesbian youth. This year's beneficiaries will be chosen through a competitive grant-making process administered through The Greater Harrisburg Foundation. FAB '99 is a unique opportunity to strengthen and support the lesbian and gay community, and have a lot of fun in the process. To order tickets, call FAB's toll free line at 800-406-3321.
