Jallen started playing before his feet could reach the floor from the piano stool. Growing up in a church gave him plenty of opportunity to get his musical feet wet. He was composing by high school and made it his degree in college. With that under his belt, Jallen began a career writing and performing in hundreds of locations across the U.S. He has recorded three tapes and has just released his fourth recording on CD, The Sacred and the Queer.
With this CD, Jallen continues his commitment to musical intimacy by allowing his audience to hear for the first time, his struggles and joys as a gay man. "I strive to integrate all the areas of my lifemy spirituality, my mentality, my sexuality. As this happens, it's great to see it show up in my music."
This has caused a stir in some of Jallen's fans. "It's been great to be honest with them about my spiritual and sexual journey and we've learned how to be better friends as a result of the debate." In fact, he considers it an honor to be specially suited for the task of creating understanding between the sacred and the queer.
