Piano Festival at the Beach |
The Delmarva Piano Festival has become a widely recognized cultural event in southern Delaware over the past several years. The pianists presented in this unique series became acquainted while attending the Julliard School during the mid-1980s. Now in its seventh year, the pianists are active in their individual careers, performing throughout the United States in recitals, chamber music concerts and with orchestras.
The festival includes three recitals at Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Recital I: Saturday, August 1, 8:00 p.m. Works will include selected sonatas by Scarlatti, selected transcriptions by Chopin/Liszt, "Emerson (1919)" by Ives, and "Handel Variations, Opus 24," by Brahms. Recital II: Sunday, August 2, 8:00 p.m. Works included: "Rondo A minor, K.511" by Mozart, "Sonata in F sharp, Opus 78" by Beethoven, "World Premiere" by Yong Nan Park, and "Kreisleriana, Opus 16" by Schumann. Recital III: Tuesday, August 4, 8:00 p.m. Works included: "Sonata in C (1790)" by Alexander Reinagle, "Improvisations, Opus 20" by Bartok, "Le baiser de lenfant Jesus" by Messiaen and "Sonata in B minor" by Liszt. Admission to each recital is $10. Subscription passes are available for $25 at the door. |
