Rehoboth Gets On-Line E-Mail List
Rehoboth homeowners, businesses and visitors can now participate in e-mail discussions using an electronic mailing list. Other communities use similar e-mail lists as an electronic meeting place. Heres how it works: To join the list, computer users with Internet e-mail access type "subscribe rehoboth-list" (without the quotes) on the first line of a message and e-mail the message to majordomo@magpage.com. When a list member sends a message to the list, the Majordomo software automatically resends the message to all list members. The list is free and open to all. Computer users with a modem, but without Internet e-mail, may obtain a free Juno e-mail account. Call 800-654-JUNO for details. Questions on the list? E-mail: henney@gwu.edu. Henlopen Theater Project Launches Charter Membership Drive for 99 The Henlopen Theater Project, which will embark on its first full summer season of Equity Theater featuring professional actors and directors performing at the Little Theater in Lewes in 1999, is now offering charter memberships. According to Helen Pelikan, founder and director of the Henlopen Theater Project (HTP), charter members names will appear in all 1999 theater programs. Charter members will receive one free ticket to a 1999 production, discounts on other performances, invitations to talks, lectures and seminars, and an invitation to a gala featuring the stars of the inaugural theater season. Charter memberships are $99 each. "Although the Delaware Division of the Arts and other noteworthy organizations back the project, substantial corporate funding comes only where theres widespread community support," said Pelikan. "The real reward for charter members will be knowing that they made an important contribution to bringing live professional theater to the community." The six-week 1999 summer season is expected to include two plays and a special performance event. In August, HTP presented Dixie Carter in cabaret to a sellout crown at the Little Theater located at Cape Henlopen High School. Carter also conducted a master class in singing for six local high school students, their parents and teachers. HTP is supported by the Sussex Arts Council, City of Rehoboth Beach, Town of Bethany Beach, Town of Dewey Beach, the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, Lewes Chamber of Commerce, Rehoboth Beach Main Street, Sussex County Convention & Tourism Commission, CAMP Rehoboth, Cape Henlopen School District, Sussex County Medical Alliance, Rehoboth Art League, Delaware Music School, and the Village Improvement Association. HTP is partially funded by the Delaware Division of the Arts and the Sussex Arts Council, Inc. To purchase charter memberships with a VISA or MasterCard, or for further information, phone The Henlopen Theater Project at 302-226-4103. Challenge Issued to "Private Beach" Sign Approximately 15 men recently staked claim to an area of beach long labeled as "Private" when they ventured south of Poodle Beach, stepped over the low-strung rope with the sign which reads: Private Beach, Please Pass Through, and set-up camp directly in front of the (former) Carpenter Estate near Silver Lake. At approximately 1:30 that same afternoon, a resident of the estate called the Delaware State Police for assistance in forcing the group off their "private beach," telling the trooper the interlopers had littered the beach, played volleyball in the area, and dug holes in the sandsand which the owners claimed to have had replenished at their own expense. Meanwhile, an officer at Delawares Troop 7 searched property records and attempted to contact a judge regarding the private beach. The search showed that the estates property line does indeed extend to the high tide mark of the beach, but the officer concluded that the residents do not provide any servicesbeach club, beach patrol, etc.so they cannot claim exclusivity over the beach. Before leaving the scene, however, the trooper urged the group to clean up before leaving and re-fill any holes they had dug, but they were allowed to stay on the beach. Checklist Keeps Track of Our Written Culture Our heritage is disappearing. Books go out of print, presses go out of business, and the rich written culture of the bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgendered communities is lost. Margaret Gillon, editor of the 1995 bibliography Lesbians in Print, intends to rescue lost titles with a new bibliography that lists every b/g/l/t title ever published in English, an estimated 8000 entries. Checklist includes complete bibliographic citations for older books, out-of-prints, rare editions, and cutting edge new releases. A thematic bibliography, Checklist is an invaluable resource for b/g/l/t studies teachers who wish to develop courses around specific themes or genres. Any library that wishes to establish or enrich its b/g/l/t collection is sure to find Checklist an indispensable tool. For the general reader, Checklist offers a complete listing of the books every reader wants to own. As part of her effort to get Checklist the widest possible circulation, Gillon is distributing two thousand free copies of Checklist to acquisitions librarians, b/g/l/t studies teachers and libraries throughout the country. To pay for those copies, Odd Girls Press will sell advertisements in Checklist. Ads will be seen by the very people who choose books for courses and who order books for public and academic libraries. Publishers, authors, and editors can check out the bibliography as it progresses by going to the Odd Girls website and checking out the Checklist page at www. OddGirlsPress.com/checklist.html. The website will be updated every two weeks until Checklists publication in May 1999 allowing participants to verify that their listings are correct. For more information on advertising, guidelines for inclusion, or submission deadlines, contact Odd Girls Press, P.O. Box 2157, Anaheim, CA 92814-2157, or call 1-800-821-0632.
