Connections June, the sixth month of the year, is named for the Roman goddess, Juno, wife of Jupiter. Juno, also known as Hera, was the goddess of marriage. Fittingly, June is considered the best time to marry. There will be a significant amount of activity and conversation in our community this month surrounding the issue of marriage and what it means in terms of our civil rights. Marriage will be a connection for us during gay pride celebrations that take place this month across the country and many other countries in honor of the Stonewall riots. As this issue evolves, it will continue to bring us together in a show of solidarity and support.
Juno is ruler of the high point of the year when there is maximum light and minimum darkness. The summer solstice occurs around June 21 and is our natural progression into the warmest season of the year. In our northern hemisphere, it extends from the summer solstice to the autumnal equinox. This is the time when people say that they are going to spend a lazy summer at the shore. However, CAMP Rehoboth and many of you in our community are more energized than ever during this time. Our largest and most successful fundraising events are taking place, as well as many smaller activities, and the community comes alive. The CAMP office is bustling with activity and camaraderie. We move from the Founders' Circle Black and White Beach Ball on June 5 to the Mermaid Splash Women's Dance on June 26. Both events benefit our Capital Campaign to create a larger, more updated space that will allow our community access to programs and services that meet our needs. In July, the "love" connection begins with Love 2004 on July 2 and July 3; and on July 24, members of our community demonstrate their acting abilities and outrageous humor through participation in the CAMP Rehoboth Follies. We end our warmest season with the hottest event of the year, Sundance 2004, on September 4 and 5. Our annual Sundance event is critical to carrying on the work of CAMP Rehoboth to build a safe place for all. Founders' Circle We want to thank each and every one of our 266 Founders' Circle members for your generosity and love. To date, these wonderful businesses, foundations and individuals have pledged $678,934 to help us reach our goal of $1,000,000. We have achieved this together in only three years of our five-year Capital Campaign. On Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the sold-out Founders' Circle Black and White Beach Ball at the Atlantic Sands Hotel, it is your night to stand proud and be saluted for your commitment to community! It's never too late to be a part of our journey to serve our community and ensure its continued health and longevity. Help us meet the challenge by becoming a Founders' Circle member today! There are eight levels to choose from and several different ways to pay so we can accommodate most anyone's budget. CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization so contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. By becoming a member, you also receive cool gift(s) depending on your level; and your name inscribed in the permanent records as a Charter member. Depending on the membership level you choose, your name will be inscribed on a brick, a tile, a door or a room. How do you join? Complete the pledge form included in this issue and return it to the CAMP Rehoboth office. We'll take care of the rest. Also, urge your family members and friends to become a part of our effort to build community. Next year, don't just read about the fabulous Black and White Beach Ball and HeART of the Community Art Auction. Join with us in the magical spirit of community!
