Rehoboth Beach Cabaret Fest 2005

Rehoboth Beach and Cabaret go together. Cabaret is song, comedy and theater in intimate settings. Rehoboth Beach is blessed with many such intimate settingsour wonderful restaurants. The first weekend of May is warm and not too crowded. It's an ideal set-up for a Cabaret Fest.

Walk around town and you'll find a diversity of cabaret voices and styles you'll rarely find all within a few blocks. You'll also experience Rehoboth's sense of community, as you run into old friends at every stop and make new friends along the way.

Abstractions (203 Rehoboth Ave) 302-226-0877 Suzette Pritchett (vocals) Saturday, May 7, 7-9:30pm

Electrifying soulful sound, striking free-spirited musical presenceher voice is capable of sending melodies of love. Suzette Pritchett's cabaret performance will evoke Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones, Nat King Cole and Etta James.

Adriatico (30 Baltimore Avenue) 302-227-9255 Susan Campanero (vocals/comedy), Robby Stamper (piano/vocals/comedy) Friday, May 6, 9pm dinner show 11pm late show; Saturday, May 7, 9pm dinner show 11pm late show.

Susan Campanero and Robbie Stamper sing oldies and show tunes interspersed with irreverent improvisational humor and audience participation antics inspired by Susan's role as Tina in Tony and Tina's Wedding.

Atlantic Seafood Company (101 N Boardwalk) 302-227-2511 Bobby Burnett (vocals) Friday, May 6, 7-9pm; Saturday, May 7, 7-9pm

From the Arthur Godfrey Show to appearances with show business' biggest stars, Bobby's career has encompassed 70 recordings including Moments, Topaz and Christmas Time. His wit and stage charm appeal to a wide audience.

Blue Moon (35 Baltimore Avenue) 302-227-6515 Pamala Stanley (vocals/keyboard) Friday, May 6, 8-11pm Saturday May 7, 8-11pm. No cover.

With a voice that can encompass the most intimate whisper and her trademark soaring bel canto, Pamala does it all. Although best known for 1984's Coming Out Of Hiding, expect standards and Broadway in her Act.

Holly Lane (vocals) Sunday, May 8, 11am-3pm, Brunch

Holly Lane has performed in Parisian jazz clubs, cabarets, musicals, and on cruise ships in Martinique, Greece, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and France. Her repertoire consists of rich, sultry ballads, jazz standards, French music and show tunes.

Caf Sol (44 Baltimore Avenue) 302-227-7107 Bruce Anthony (vocals/guitar) Friday, May 6, 7-11pm Saturday,May 7, 7-11pm

Bruce performs his own arrangements plus standards by Fats Waller, Nat King Cole and Gershwin with a mellow voice, subtle humor and smooth style. His phrasing has feelhe's fluid, not just technically proficient.

Caf Zeus (37 Wilmington Avenue) 302-226-0400 Vessa (vocals) Friday, May 6, 8pm-midnight

Energy, pizzazz, charm, charisma. Actor, model, singer, clown, impersonator, dancer. There's not much this performer hasn't done and it all comes into play as she presents her uplifting renditions of familiar songs old and new.

Lisa Scott and the Melting Pot (vocals) Saturday, May 7, 8pm-midnight

Lisa Scott's influences are myriad: listening to classic soul and older pop, gospel and Reggae and hanging out with Jorma Kaukonen. If Astrud Gilberto had recorded for STAX records, this is what it might have sounded likecall it soulful lounge.

Viki Dee (vocals/keyboard) Sunday, May 8, 11am-3pm, Brunch

Viki's influences include her Dad (a former Baltimore swing band vocalist), Toni Braxton, Phyllis Hyman and Anita Baker. Her soon to be released Drive is adult contemporary genre sprinkled with top-40 and country.

This sweet voiced, stunning blond will relax and romance you with singable, toe-tapping light Jazz and pop standards. Gently accompanied by Barry Eli on keyboards, they'll make your after dinner hours a soothing, fun time you won't soon forget.

Nora captures humor and heartache as she relates authentic stories and experiences through her original songs. She combines confessional Joni Mitchell intimacy with soulful Aretha Franklin attitude, all with excellent stage presence.

Stunning Susanne, Mrs. Delaware 2005, sings soulful ballads, torch songs, swinging jazz and R&B hits. She's backed up by Rough Jazz who'll skillfully perform Latin rhythms, blues, show tunes and standards from Gershwin, Porter and Arlen.

Galen Johnson (vocals) with the GROOVE Saturday, May 7, 9:30pm-12:30am

Known as musical revisionists, the GROOVE has a mature and stylistic approach to music every time they play. With old style soul, funky jazz, and their own groove, it's sure to leave audiences wanting more.

How well will the Birdcage Bad Girls do at impersonating famous cabaret entertainers? This Sunday night institution is always a hoot, more so tonight as these big-haired, big-heeled, big-shouldered girls draw inspiration from cabaret stars.

Cabaret Performers appearing around Rehoboth will stop in at Sea Witch to sing a few songs at the Grand Piano. Unique opportunity to experience varied voices of Cabaret Fest in one place. This was a highlight of previous Cabaret Fests.

Juanita Williams (vocals) with Fred Hughes Sunday Brunch, May 8, 11am-3pm Juanita's singing ability, varied repertoire and mesmerizing stage presence, along with her rapport with live audiences, have impressed the likes of Bob Hope, Wayne Newton, Carol Lawrence, Diane Schurr and President Bill Clinton. You'll be next.
