SPEAK Out |
On behalf of Delaware Pride, thank you for helping to make the tenth annual Delaware Pride festival a great success! Without the generous support of individuals, organizations, vendors, entertainers, gay-friendly politicians, and the local LGBT community and its allies, this year's Delaware Pride Festival, held on September 16, would not have been such a wonderful event for the LGBT community. Also, we extend much gratitude to this year's festival sponsors: Equality Sponsors ING Worldwide Financial Services and MetLife; EXP Magazine; ID Lubricants; and The Atlantis Inn. We're already looking forward to next year's festival! If you would like to become involved in Delaware Pride, please visit our website at www.delawarepride.org. Delaware Pride Board Members The Beach Brigade is a group of local volunteers who will be leaving their love ones and jobs behind in order to help less fortunate families and individuals impacted by last year's hurricane season. We all remember seeing the damage from those storms, and unfortunately many of the victims are still living in tents and makeshift shelters. The Beach Brigade will once again make an effort to ensure that a few more families will be back in their homes in time for the upcoming holidays. It would be a wonderful world, after all, if every town in the US had its own Brigade to help people in need. The volunteers will depart for Mississippi October 30 and return to Rehoboth Beach November 17. The volunteers will continue to assist with hurricane recovery efforts where needed in the Pass Christian, Gulf Port, and Biloxi Areas of Mississippi. It's a wonderful thing that our community is still helping people who lost everything. But to make all of this happen, The Beach Brigade needs our help. There are several ways for you to assist. First, Caf Sol has graciously volunteered to give the Beach Brigade 25% of all food sales during a fundraiser held there on Thursday, October 19, 2006 starting at 5 p.m. Please come out and enjoy a meal, or even a few appetizers, and at the same time support this wonderful group of people. Any donations you care to make at this time will be accepted during this event. If you cannot come out on October 19th and would like to make a donation please stop by Partners Bar and Restaurant, Dos Locos Restaurant or Lighthouse Inn B&B and put your change (and maybe some of that paper money) in the moneybox at all three locations. Also, if you are unable to drop your donation off at the restaurants or attend the fundraiser, please call Matt at 302-226-0407. All funds from these events will go to help defray the travel expenses for the volunteers going to and from Mississippi, as well as to transport and deliver 50 bicycles and other necessary equipment. The remaining money will be donated to the Mississippi community with love from all of you. There will be no administrative costs, and every penny donated will be used in this good cause. The Beach Brigade realizes there is still a need, and if we all chip in just a little we can make a BIG difference. I hope to see some of you there.
