Have you ever had a vision of a better world? I would imagine that many people have had such a vision or a dream. In fact, there is a lot of evidence out there in our communities that a vision, supported by hard work, can become a reality. I=m one of those people who has had a vision for many years. But, I never could quite grasp a concrete way that I could reach out to help others heal in an uncomplicated, self-nurturing manner. I have spent the past fourteen years working with children, adolescents and adults healing from various losses, trauma and abuse in clinical and community settings. However, in the past five years or so, the health care system has drastically changed. A managed care system has, in my opinion, created a quagmire of uncertainty about the future of our health care. Mental Health care is no exception in this newly devised system where an intermediate chooses quality and quantity of our care. As a result, many folks are seeking alternative medicine and preventative self care techniques to minimize illness and improve overall health. After serious reevaluation of where my professional life was going, I decided to take a risk on what my heart was saying to me about the value of Self Healing and the role that the creative process plays in healing and recovery. Since there is no foundation established in this area that embraces the philosophy of my vision, I founded Creative Connections Incorporated. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you just a little bit about it. Creative Connections is a non-profit agency offering alternative programs for emotional healing and behavioral change. We will utilize the arts as a vehicle for accessing the natural healing that can occur during the creative process. Our mission is to create a safe, nurturing environment where this can occur. In order to serve our mission and reach our goals we will need many helping hands. We have a few volunteers, but we=ll need more as we grow and develop. Our current volunteers are out in the community selling raffle tickets for three separate, simultaneously running raffles. You can purchase raffle tickets at the following Rehoboth locations for only $1.00 each: Earthly Wonders, Etched In Time, Creatable Crafts, and Heavenly Angels.
