RAL Contemporary Exhibit
Contemporary art will be the subject of a new April exhibit at the Rehoboth Art League. From April 3-26 the League will host the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts 1997-98 Juried Members Exhibition. The exhibition consists of one work each by 26 artists, mostly from the Mid-Atlantic area. "One nice surprise in this exhibit is that a work by John Mark Gleadow, who won the Leagues 1997 Faucett Okie Award for an Emerging Artist, was selected for the show," said Nancy OBrien, League director. "Its nice to see one of our own return home." The exhibit was juried by Susan Dunne, the director of the Pace Wildenstein Gallery in Soho, New York. "I was surprised," said Dunne, "at just how wide a net was cast by this particular competition. It did not have a local feel in the least...and the quality of the submissions overall was quite high." League Director, Nancy OBrien, credits Steve Lanier, the Director of the Delaware Center for the Creative Arts, with the quality of the show. "I worked with Steve when he judged the Leagues annual members show, and I found his judgments to be right on the mark," said OBrien. "Hes also a wonderful pleasure to work with." Sader Dinner Scheduled The Seaside Jewish Community Group will present a Passover Seder on Saturday, April 11, 1998, at 6:00 p.m. at All Saints Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth. A wonderful Passover dinner will be prepared by Chef Solomon Kernosh. (Adult members $18, children $5; non-members $20, children $7). Vegetarian upon request; reservations a must. For more information, contact Lynne Chichi at 644-2209, Lenora Cohen at 645-0183, or Harvey Fruman at 226-2209. Unitarian Easter Service The Reverend Patricia Carol, District Executive for a 5-state area, will conduct the Easter Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalists Church of Southern Delaware (UUSD). A childrens choir will perform. UUSD is a new and rapidly growing liberal religious congregation. Religious education for children is provided, as well as a nursery for small children. The service is held at 10:30 at the Lewes Middle School on Savannah Road. Art Exhibit at Cloud 9 Cloud 9 Restaurant will have its first art exhibit of the 1998 season from April 15- May 17. This show begins a full season of rotating art works for your visual enjoyment while savoring the wonderful culinary tastes in the Cloud 9 Restaurant, 234 Rehoboth Avenue. Following the group show will be six one-person shows. Each artist will be displayed for approximately three weeks at a time. Fifteen percent of the proceeds of each sale will be donated to a local charity chosen by the artist. Please watch for the opening receptions and come enjoy the art, ambiance and food. The first exhibit includes watercolor, photography and mixed media. Many of the pieces will be local scenes. Participating in this show are watercolorists Dale Sheldon, Bill Snow and David Gillenwater; photographers Judy Rolfe and Roy Boucher; and mixed media artist Lee Wayne Mills. |
