MAMM-oral Day Parties Benefit Lesbians with Cancer |
The Mary-Helen Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer kicked off the summer season on May 27th with a pre-tea fundraiser at the beautiful Spring Lake home of long-time Mautner Project supporter, Dr. Mindy Jacobs. "We can't thank Mindy enough for planning and hosting this wonderful reception," says Mautner Project Executive Director Kathleen DeBold. "In addition to raising more than $1000 to help lesbians with cancer, we all had an incredible time and recruited new table captains for the Mautner Project's 10th Anniversary Gala." (One of the largest lesbian-run charity events in the country, the Mautner Project's Gala Dinner, Dance, and Auction is scheduled for Saturday, September 23. Tickets go on sale June 1.) Among Mindy's MAMM-orial Day guests were "Men of Mautner" founders Jeffrey Z. Slavin and Douglas Miller, popular Naiad Press author Barbara Johnson, Camp Rehoboth writer Libby Stiff, and Mautner Project angels Ellen Schiff, Susan Eig, and Joan Smiley. On Sunday, May 28, Concord Promotions Regional Representative Julie S. Peters and her partner Joan LeLacheur hosted a table captain planning brunch for the Gala. Among the guests were Dottie Cirelli, Myrna Kelly, Libby Stiff and Bea Wagner. The DC-based Mautner Project is the only national organization dedicated to the special concerns of lesbians with cancer, their partners and caregivers. In addition to providing direct services, the volunteer-driven Mautner Project educates lesbians about cancer and teaches providers about the healthcare needs of their lesbian clients. This fall, the Mautner Project will host "Healing Works," the First National Conference on Lesbians and Cancer, from September 21 to 23, at the Washington Hilton in Washington D.C.
