Like the dance song says, "Let's get soaking wet!" Not in the ocean mind you, but at 3 Country Club's annual Squirt Gun Party. This year's installment, dubbed "Pirates with no Pants," takes place on Saturday, August 11th from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Something about the theme tells me we'll see plenty of wooden legs...and I don't mean the kind you walk on. Democrats come out, come out wherever you are to support Mark K. Shriver's Congressional Campaign at the home of Jim D'Orta (123 Silver Lake Drive) on Saturday, August 11th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The dress is casual. There will be food, drink and entertainmentincluding an appearance by Congressman Barney Frank. Rehoboth Beach Gayzette (RBG) photographer, Russell Stuckey, will also be there to take photographs and as co-sponsor of the event. For many of us, High School was decades ago, but thanks to 515 School Lane, we now have the chance to re-live one of its most exciting moments...Homecoming! Pep rallies, floats, cheerleaders, football players and more! Don't miss your chance to be Homecoming King or Queen on Saturday, August 11th from 9 p.m. midnight. If you are unfamiliar with the legendary group at 515 School Lane, see the "Cheers" and "Beach House of the Week" sections of this column. On Sunday, August 12th from 5-8 p.m., there are two tea dances to choose from: Yum Yum with DJ Michele Miruski and Cloud 9's CAMPsafe Tea Dance with DJ Robbie Leslie. The CAMPsafe Tea theme is "Arabian Nights," with special hosts Chris Riss and Cliff Lassahn. On Saturday, August 18th from 5-8 p.m. stop by 707 Bayard for their "Basanova" cocktail party. From there, head on over to 1015 Fifth Street from 9 p.m. to midnight for "Space CowboysRide or Be Ridden." DJ Mike Rimer (Washington DC) will be spinning tunes while the mechanical bull they have set up in the yard will separate the men from the boys. Outerspace will never be the same. Nor will Cyberspace. Check out their online invite at www.RehobothBoys.com/2001.html. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To Mary Beth Ramsey and Bob Ramsey of 39 Baltimore Avenue! To 10 Terrace's Kevin Duthie! To 10 George's John DiGregorio and Joe Bradley! To 37 Quillen's Bruce Namerow! To 1 Robinson's Mike Bartlett! CHEERS! To 515 School Lane for taking first place in the CAMP Cover Contest. (See cover of this issue.) Congratulations, fellas! We knew you'd nab it! JEERS! To Hurricanes and Jellyfish. Now showing at a beach near you! Hopefully we'll avoid both! BEACH HOUSE OF THE WEEK: You guessed it...515 School Lane. So they're not on Rodney Street this year, so what? When will people learn that it's not the address of the house that counts...it's who lives there! If they had to, this Baltimore bunch could set up residency on the Moon and still reign supreme. But for now, they're in Rehoboth, gearing up for what many call "the best party of the summer." This year's hook: "High School Homecoming." It's as clever as ever and people will come in record numbers (in costume) to be a part of summer's biggest gala. To steal from one of Cliff Lassahn's drag personas, your visit to 515 School Lane on Saturday, August 11th from 9 p.m. - midnight, will be "Shirley Worthette." But wait, there's more! Have you ever been to a beach house where the basement was transformed into a costume studio, filled from top to bottom with clothing, accessories and props?? How about a house with members talented enough to win the Letters Cover Contest? (Which, by the way, couldn't be more perfectly timed to coincide with their party...see the cover of this issue.) And what about a house that values "big entrances?" So big, in fact, that other beach houses feel compelled to hire fire trucks to deliver them to the catwalk! (Think 302 Laurel last summer.) All this and more is 515 School Lane. Right now, it's all about them. This is their weekendtheir shining momentand they've earned it. Here's how the boys at School Lane have made their mark on Rehoboth. Remember when... 1996 - "Wild, Wild Chest" 1997 - "Hot Rod Drag Race" 1998 - "Delmarva Swimsuit Pageant" 1999 - "Austin Powers meets Valley of the Dolls" 2000 - "Viva Las Vegas" WEEKEND "RAP-UP" Saturday, July 28th was another marathon of parties starting with a decoy cocktail party at 10 George to keep John DiGregorio and Kevin Duthie away from 10 Terrace where a surprise birthday party awaited them. Meanwhile, Drew Mitchell and Jon Dauphine painted Rehoboth pink with their "Dirty in Pink" cocktail party at 200 New Castle. Frank Surprenant and Chris Wisner hosted an HRC National Dinner Kick-Off at 1025 Scarborough Ext while 228 Country Club had people over for a screening of Esther Williams flicks. Then we giddy-upped to 312 Bayard for "Shoot Out at the K-Y Corral." Note to aspiring party planners: This is how a party should be done. It was quite incredible. Fabulous set design and props, and covering the grounds with hay was a remarkable finishing touch. Makes you wanna yell, "Yee Haw!" Sunday, July 29th brought rain to town but everyone seemed to make up for the lost beach day by celebrating extra hard at Bruce Namerow's 30th birthday party at the Purple Parrot. That night, the town celebrated the Blue Moon's 21st Anniversary, a.k.a "Moulin Bleu." There was a whole lot of French going on, a whole lot of blue going on, and a whole lot of confetti in everyone's drinks and hair. The amazing decorations, live music and high energy made it one of Blue Moon's finest parties ever! On Saturday, August 4th, Rodney Cook's art opening at the Blue Moon drew a large crowd as did a dinner party at 29 James A. (home of Terry Knoy and Domenic Mannello) which served about 40 people! The final destination that evening was at Randy Marshall and Tommy Gibson's 330 Beech residence where the Full Moon Party was in full swing all night long. Randy and Tommy seem to outdo themselves every year. If only there were more parties like this onewith tent, dance floor, DJ, and dancing under the stars. Can't wait 'til next year!
