BLACK & WHITE BEACH BALL RAISES $50,000 The Black & White Beach Ball, a fundraiser for the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Project (CRCCP) was the place to be the weekend of June 1st. The event, which was held at the Atlantic Sands Hotel, marked the second year in a five-year plan to raise one million dollars for the construction and development of the GLBT Community Center building. CAMP Rehoboth's board of directors recently purchased the property at 39 Baltimore Avenue, the future site for the center.
BACHELOR AUCTION: LET THE BIDDING BEGIN Saturday, June 15th from 5-8 p.m., the 7th annual Blue Moon Bachelor Auction returns! It's time for big bidding on beefy bachelors. And just wait 'til you see who's on stage this year! 100% of the proceeds will benefit LOVE 2002, the July 4th weekend dance event that, in turn, will benefit SCAC, CAMP Rehoboth, The Women's Project and Rehoboth Main Street. Mark your calendars for other upcoming Blue Moon bashes: ** The Calypso Party Sat., June 22, 9 p.m. to close. ** Love American Style Wed., July 3, 9 p.m. to close. ** Sock Hop (22nd Anniversary) Sun., July 28, 9 p.m. to close. CHRISTOPHER PETERSON'S "EYECONS" CELEBRATES 5th YEAR IN REHOBOTH If you don't know who Christopher Peterson is, or haven't heard of his one-man show at the Renegade, you've been hiding under a rock for the past five years-a very large rock! Singing praises in this column won't do the show justice. You have to see it for yourself to believe it. Meanwhile, here's what you need to know about this incredible slice of entertainment: In the show, called Eyecons, Peterson impersonates some of the greatest female personalities of the 20th century. (Don't assume that you've "seen it all before." If you haven't seen Peterson's take on these personalities, go see it now! Peterson uses his own voice for each and every character. (Just wait 'til you hear him sing.) Eyecons runs every Friday at 10 p.m., Saturday at 9 p.m. and Sunday at 10 p.m. at the Renegade. Admission is $10 per person. (Arrive early because it's always a crowded house.) Peterson has created three distinct shows, with different characters in each one. (Which means you'll have to go back more than twice. But trust me, you'll want to go back.) Finally, expect to laugh. A lot. It's hard to believe entertainment this good exists in our little town of Rehoboth. The truth is, Eyecons wouldn't be in its 5th year if it were anything less than amazing. So get off your butts and head out to the Renegade. You'll be glad you did. LOVE IS ALL AROUND YOU The 8th annual LOVE benefit is quickly approaching. Tickets, VIP weekend passes and sponsorships are now available and can be purchased at the LOVE Welcome Center (located at the CAMP Rehoboth office, 39 Baltimore Avenue), and online at www.LOVE2002.org. The first 250 people to purchase a VIP weekend pass will receive a Global Groove dance CD mixed by LOVE's main event DJ, David Knapp, courtesy of Centaur Music. Also, register to win VIP weekend passes at the new LOVE tent on Poodle Beach every Saturday from now until July 6th. LOVE2002 is made up of 5 events scheduled over the July 4th weekend. The overall production is benefiting the Sussex County AIDS Committee (SCAC), CAMP Rehoboth, The Women's Project and Rehoboth Main Street. Visit www.LOVE2002.org for a schedule of events and prices. IT'S ALL ABOUT TEA, AT YUM YUM This summer, Yum Yum (37 Wilmington Avenue) is making big changes on Sunday night. Thanks to the enormous popularity of its Sunday Tea Dance from 5-8 p.m., the Pan Asian Bistro is halting its Sunday dinner service so that the Tea Dance crowd may have full access to both the outside courtyard and the air-conditioned indoor restaurant area. This means less congestion and more room for dancing and socializing. But patrons of Sunday's Tea won't be dancing on an empty stomach. Appetizers are available and a new, hot hors d'oeuvres bar has been added with a number of tasty treats, including pasta, chicken skewers and fresh shrimp. Stop by every Sunday from 5-8 p.m. for a cool ending to your hot weekend. GOT BEACH BOOK? The 10th annual summer phone directory, The Beach Book, will be available on Saturday, June 22nd. Pick up your copy at CAMP Rehoboth (39 Baltimore Ave.) or on Poodle Beach from you know who. $1 donation for each book suggested. If you have news or information you would like to share for the next issue of NEWS & NOTES, send it to NewsNotes@aol.com. |
