CAMP Golf Classic will be Boys and Girls Together! Fore! |
With news of the success of the CAMP Rehoboth Women's Golf League spreading like wildfire, rumblings have been heard from men with clubshey, when is it our turn?
Announcing: The CAMP Rehoboth Golf Classic, a tournament planned for Friday, June 23 at Marsh Island Golf Course. Trading on the success of the women's league and the need to raise money for two worthy building projects, this year's CAMP Rehoboth Classic is set to benefit the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Fund and the Metropolitan Community Church of Rehoboth Building Fund. This 18-hole tournament is open to a diversity of foursomes; the gals, the guys, or mix and match. Registration is $75 per person or $280 per foursome, and includes continental breakfast, green fees, cart fees, luncheon and PRIZES. Golfers are being encouraged to register in teams (individuals may also register and will be assigned to teams when possible) and make checks payable to CAMP Rehoboth, forwarding the registrations to CAMP Rehoboth at 37 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth. In order to close the course down for the tournament, 80 players must participate, with the maximum number of players at 110. With the number of players on the CAMP women's league, there will be plenty of competition for slotsand the guys are encouraged, no, URGED to get involved! The tournament is being run by Evie Simmons and Barb Thompson, the golf gurus behind the mega-successful women's league. There will be an all-volunteer staff, with folks from the golf league, MCC and CAMP Rehoboth participating. Simmons and Thompson received their tournament operation training in New Jersey, assisting a friend with a large tournament. "We knew that golf tournaments can raise a lot of money, and we figured it would be a good way to donate to these building funds," says Evie. Tournament operations include preparing a budget, negotiating with the golf course, attracting sponsors and prizes, and the tough job of figuring out where the foursomes will begin for the shot gun start of play. The tournament schedule includes 8 a.m. registration and breakfast, a 9 a.m. shotgun start to the tournament (scramble format) followed by lunch and awards. Judging by the well-known generosity of the sponsors, including major tournament sponsor Clubhouse Golf, the prizes should be fun and the day will be a great sporting and social event. In fact, following the tournament Cloud 9 will be the scene of the 19th hold celebration with a 5-8 p.m. Happy Hour with $1 off the first drink for thirsty golfers. So calling all duffers, pros and weekend warriors! Let's see how many guys we can get to join in the fun and stir up interest in a CAMP Rehoboth Men's League, too! You can pick up registration forms at the CAMP Rehoboth office. Call 302-227-5620 or 302-227-2387 for more information. |
