Rod Cook Paints Watercolors about Life in Rehoboth Beach |
Fast Rides and Wild Skies is the most recent exhibition in a series of one man shows by artist Rodney Cook over the last eight years. This show specializes in the amusements at Funland particularly the Carousel, The Paratrooper Ride, and the Helicopters. "I like to make Carousel Horses come alive. And, I like the idea of floating through the night sky in an open vehicle with feet dangling and trying to touch the stars," says Cook.
The exhibition also has lifeguards and beach scenes. Some have blue skies and airplanes flying "Drink Cold Beer" signs, while other paintings have a color twist with bright illuminations in unexpected oranges, or chrome yellows, or lime greens and surprising sand in lavenders and pink. Finally the attention turns to Dolle's and the Boardwalk in both day and night light. Some paintings feature local businesses and familiar houses and evening time at the shore. Fast Rides & Wild Skies by Rodney Cook is at The Back Porch Caf, 59 Rehoboth Avenue through September 8. A special opening reception at the Back Porch is Sunday, August 12, from 4-6 p.m. with a reception following at the artist's house at 224 Country Club Drive in Rehoboth from 6-8 p.m. |
