Women's Weekend A Smashing Success Who could have predicted that our Women's Weekend would be such an empowering, entertaining and memorable experience! It began with the Friday evening appearance of Suzanne Westenhoefer who enthralled a sell-out crowd with her candid humor about life combined with her zany wit. She really did have all of us rolling in the aisles! The day began early on Saturday with the third annual Women's Conference on Financial, Health and Legal issues. Even though many of us wished that we could have slept late that day, we were completely energized and inspired by the keynote speaker, Mary LoVerde. She touched our hearts and our minds with her message about connecting with ourselves and with others so that we can have happy and healthy lives. Now we understand why she has been a frequent guest on Oprah! This year's workshops, offering a wide range of topics ranging from personal health to basic home repair, were a hit with the 175 attendees. Our wonderful presenters, who received rave reviews, motivated attendees to learn new things. This year, we had a diverse group of vendors who were committed to providing important information and materials to the conference attendees. The vendors happily reported that they were continuously busy throughout the day and that it was worthwhile for them to interact with the women in our community. We would be remiss if we did not mention the wonderful food and beverage provided by Caf Sol, Pure Pride Spring Water, Starbucks Coffee and Wawa who kept the attendees well fed, hydrated and happy. After we set up the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center for the third time in two days (whew!), we were able to kick back and enjoy the lyrics and music of Barbara Higbie and Teresa Trull on Saturday evening. I can't even begin to describe how fabulous these two were! They brought us to laughter and to tears as they entertained us with their life's experiences and with their beautiful songs. Such talented and "in tune" women! On Sunday, the grand finale was the Women's Brunch at Celsius Restaurant where all 101 of us enjoyed great food and wonderful camaraderie. The raffle winners for the American Airlines tickets and the Hook 'Em II Sunset Cruise, announced at the brunch, were Debbie Estes and Joanne Cassidy, and Carol Dadds, respectively. A grateful thank you to everyone who made our third annual Women's Conference and the Women's Weekend possible. We are fortunate to have wonderful community support and great volunteers. It's a spirit that will enable the CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project to continue advocating for women in meaningful ways. |
