In downtown DC this past weekend, the Mid City Artists opened our studios so that folks could drop by, see our space, talk about our process, and hopefully, find some art they love and buy it. The formula is a grand success, times being how they are, and everyone reported more than satisfactory turnout.
Several of our member artists are doing works for the LottoHEART project, and visiting my studio were several other artists who are participating. Also many supporters of CAMP Rehoboth dropped by. So the talk, talk, talk was LottoHEART LottOTheTime. Everyone loves the concept, and I even sold my top two contenders that I'd planned to submit. That size and smaller price tag is a winning combination. Personally, I'm a huge fan of small works. They are intimate and detailed and feel like a treatlike a massage or great dinner but they stay with you a lot longer. In case this is all news to you: Over 200 postcard-sized works of art will be exhibited at CAMP Rehoboth June 25-July 2, 2009. The 5" x 7" works will then be sold on Friday, July 3rd when CAMP Rehoboth hosts the LottoHEART Game Show as part of the Whole Lotta Love Weekend (the annual LOVE dance is Saturday night). The lively auction-lottery-show, hosted by Christopher Peterson, will include the art lottery, a live auction, and surprise raffle prizes in addition to open bar, food, and entertainment. Can't come? Don't worry, you can still score some art by buying a Blind Date ticketall the artists are doing a second work that will not be part of the exhibition, but rather will be wrapped and random to go in the Blind Date pool. The climate for fundraising has stalled as economic concerns escalate. To counter this, our latest effort rolls out a large scale art project that does more with less. More artists create smaller works; each work is presented anonymously (artists are not identified); all works are sold for $100. Everyone is so excited about this project, but tickets are limited. While we expect up to 1000 people to come to the Friday night event, there are only 200 LottoHEART Art Tickets that guarantee you art and a chance to play at the event (PLUS there are an additional 200 Blind Date Tickets). All Art Tickets are $100, and both tickets get you into the event. If you think you'll want to be part of the LottoHEART show and maybe get a piece that you covet, buy a LottoHEART ticket. Too much trouble? Buy a Blind Date ticket, and we'll try our luck together by selecting work at random for you. So, for example, if you are part of a couple and only want one piece of art, you could buy one Art Ticket for $100 and one general admission ticket for $25. That's $125 for open bar, food, entertainment, and a lovely parting gift of original art. There isn't a better deal around. We said tickets would go on sale June 1st, but we couldn't wait. Ordering has started online. Go to camprehoboth.com and click either the Whole Lotta Love Weekend or the LottoHEART link. Both lead you to the same secure ordering page, but the LottoHEART page gives a bit more info. Tickets can be picked up after June 13th. Blind Date art can be picked up after June 27th. LottoHEART art is chosen as part of the July 3rd evening festivities. Not ready to buy? If you just want to reserve your $100 Art Ticket today, call CAMP Rehoboth at 302-227-5620. In some levels of Love weekend sponsorship, Art Tickets are included. A preview party honoring the artists and Founder' Circle members will be held at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center located at 37 Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, June 27, from 4-6 p.m. The preview is free and open to the public. Over 40 artists will be in attendance. Take A Chance On Love LottoHEART Artists John M. AdamsJ. S. AdamsMatty AdlerLewis AllenGini AlterMurray ArchibaldSondra N.
