Mid-Atlantic Leather Baskets Raise Funds for CAMP Center |
The winners of Mid Atlantic Leather 2000 (MAL) contest sponsored an Easter Basket Auction at the DC Eagle this past Friday evening (April 21st). The winners, Ralph Wood, 2nd Runner-up, Jon Worthington, 1st runner up (also Mr. Double L Leather 1999), and Tom Robinson, Mr. MAL 2000, auctioned their Easter Baskets (you know what we meannot "that" basket) in an effort to raise money for The Leather Archives & Museum, CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Project, and the Whitman Walker Clinic. The fundraiser netted in excess of $1600.00 with the proceeds to be split between the three winners and donated to their specific charitable organization. In addition to the three Mid-Atlantic Leather 2000 winners, several other members of the DC Leather community contributed baskets or items which were auctioned at the event. Most notably, two pink yard flamingoes dressed in full leather regalia brought more than your standard yard ornament priced at $180.00 (no doubt a great addition to anyone's yard decor). "We had a great time organizing the event and the community really supported us" Mr. Worthington said. "Everyone had a great deal of fun checking out the baskets (Easter Baskets) and at the same time we raised money to support some very important organizations in our community". The event was emceed by Al Santora, Mr. DC Eagle '84 and Frank Nowicki, Mr. MAL '93. This particular event marks the first occasion that the three MAL winners have joined together in a fundraising effort. It is hoped that the event will become an annual tradition for future MAL winners. |
