Monday, December 1, 1997 marks the tenth observance of World AIDS Day, an international event that focuses attention on the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Observed annually on December 1st, World AIDS Day serves to strengthen the global effort to face the challenges of the AIDS crisis, which continues to spread in all regions of the world. This organized effort is designed to encourage public support for programs to prevent the spread of HIV infection and provide education and awareness of HIV/AIDS issues.
The 1997 World AIDS Day theme, "Give Children Hope in a World with AIDS",challenges people around the world to contemplate the long-term repercussions of the AIDS pandemic, without losing sight that AIDS effects everyone. The theme was adapted from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) designated theme, "Children Living in a World with AIDS", to incorporate a message of hope.
You are invited to gather at the Rehoboth Bandstand at 6:15 p.m. for a candlelight march through downtown Rehoboth Beach, followed by a Service of Remembrance and Hope at Epworth Methodist Church on Baltimore Ave. |
