Photographer Michael Kahn Brings Tall Ships to Lewes |
The Edward Carter Gallery in Lewes, DE announces the opening of its premier summer photography exhibition: Michael Kahn: The Romance of Sail. The public is invited to the opening reception, Saturday July 1, from 4-7 p.m. Michael Kahn's romance with sailing began early, as a small boy skimming the Chesapeake in a Sunfish. Today he travels the world photographing the grandest examples of the boating world. Where the tall ships go, Michael follows, camera in hand. These days you will find Michael photographing the tall ships of "OpSail" as they make their way up the coast. "I am trying to capture the romance of sail, to illustrate a tradition as well as the boats themselves...I look at these boats as designs that work in harmony with nature," says Kahn. Michael shoots vintage boats, transforming his black and white film into haunting, sepia toned images, starkly detailed and warmly toned. His images capture the majesty of the vessel, and the imagination of sailor and dreamer alike. In celebration of the fourth of July weekend and OpSail, the opening reception will also feature flutist Christina Campo, a 1990 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, who will perform sea chanties. Beer from Dogfish Head will be available at the opening reception. The Edward Carter Gallery is located in The Inn at Canal Square, 122 Market Street, Lewes. For information, call 302-644-7513 |
