CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Founder's Circle Update |
by Andrea Andrus |
After The Ball! And what a success it was! As the sellout crowd in black and white or red (wow!) beach casual wear entered the beautifully decorated Atlantic Sands Hotel ballroom on Saturday, May 31, everyone was in store for an evening of entertainment and fun for a great cause. Our third annual Founders' Circle event, honoring those who have so generously supported our Capital Campaign and encouraging others to invest in our community, was the best ever. Everyone enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres and refreshing spirits, cool sounds by Peggy Raley, and a chance to chat with old friends, meet new friends, and many of our local politicians. It was an evening alive with energy and excitement! The crowd rose to the occasion in support of our dream to build a full-service Community Center through our five-year Capital Campaign goal of $1,000,000. Over $69,000 was raised through 18 new member pledges and several member upgrades to higher membership levels. Incredible! Two wonderful and wise members of our community, long-time partners Muriel Crawford and Anyda Marchant, cut the yellow ribbon of the rainbow signifying the beginning of the third year of our Capital Campaign. A fitting end to the evening was the auction of stunning works of art by 17 talented artists who donated their creativity and time to the HeART of the Community Art Project. The exciting bidding war for each painting, handled expertly by quick thinking auctioneer, Chris Riss, and his wonderful assistants, raised nearly $22,000 for the Community Center. What a heartwarming and magical night! We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Founders' Circle members, volunteers, and supporters who truly express their commitment to making our community a better place. The committee responsible for the annual Founders' Circle event spends many hours meeting and planning the event each year. I want to thank my dependable and wonderful co-chair for the last three years, Randy Overbaugh of Cloud 9 Restaurant fame, and Murray Archibald, Sondra Arkin, Steve Elkins, Mary Beth Ramsey, and Kathy Weir who provide their creative ideas, hard work and support. Unfortunately, I had to miss the event due to my partner's unexpected surgery. Like the team that we are, Steve stepped in to do my speech at the last minute and all of the committee made sure that everything ran smoothly that evening. Thank you for being there for me! I was looking forward to spending time with our Founders' Circle members and community supporters. Hopefully, I will be able to accomplish that when we have other CAMP or Founders' Circle events or when you visit the CAMP office. Please stop in and let's get acquainted. Let's also keep the momentum going so that our community's goal to raise $1,000,000 will be accomplished. The 178 members who have invested in our community and have helped to raise over $469,000 going into the third year of our Capital Campaign know that all of us working together can make a difference. We can make a difference in our own lives and in other people's lives by providing a place where we all have a sense of belonging and purpose. Help us celebrate diversity and community by becoming a Founders' Circle member today. Simply fill out the pledge form in this issue of Letters and forward it to the CAMP office. If your place of employment has a matching gift program, just send the information to us and we'll take care of the rest. For those of you who are members, consider upgrading your membership to a higher level or give a gift of membership to a family member or friend. Remember, CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization and all contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Continue to celebrate with us for what we've accomplished but be sure to join us in making greater things happen!
