LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
SPEAK Out |
The recent picket of a military funeral in Seaford by anti-gay Baptists from Kansas demonstrates how unchecked hate can only grow and seek new victims.
For many years the funerals of countless gay people have been cruelly picketed by this same church, which seems to have no belief as important to them as hatred of gays. Now they are picketing presumably heterosexual military persons, who they say died as God's punishment for America's "acceptance" of homosexuality. (Huh? I was not aware that we who are gay are very well accepted, if our legal inequality is any indication.) Sadly, now heterosexuals know firsthand how we have been treated all these years. In response Delaware House Bill 371 would ban such demonstrationsbut only at military funerals. In the name of God, how is hate speech at gay and transgender funerals any less disrespectful to the deceased or devastating to the bereaved than at a military funeral? Once again our Delaware lawmakers are endorsing a second-class status for its gay and transgender citizens. Douglas Marshall-Steele Wine Women & Song was, once again, a smashing success! We had a few kinks and we promise that those issues will be addressed and we will be ready for the throngs of women who come out to party for the next two events of the season. We thank the dozens of volunteers and all of our staff who worked so hard to make the day a reality. They were tireless in their efforts. It is so fantastic to see such a beautiful crowd indoors and out just mingling and enjoying each other's company. We thank Steve Singer, our terrific DJ, for his unending patience and his talent for having his finger on the pulse of just what the women wanted to hear and dance to. Peggy Raley...you are unbelievable! Your energy and talents are unending. Our man, Sammy, is just too good to be true and such a hard worker. We couldn't do it without you! We thank the folks over at Camp Rehoboth for helping us to get the word out on the events. We hope to see everyone on SATURDAY (remember...not Sunday) for our IndepenDANCE Week-end party on Saturday, July 1. Again, thank you so much for your support and encouragement toward "Ladies 2000".
