CAMP Chorus Begins Rehearsals
The CAMP Rehoboth Chorus is now rehearsing for what promises to be an exciting, entertaining, and inspiring winter concert set for Sunday, January 23 at the Rehoboth Theatre of the Arts. This concert will feature music from the 1940s, including a salute to the Armed Services, and some of the songs which got our country through World War II. The “Andrews Sisters” will, no doubt, perform some show stopping numbers, along with Rosie the Riveter. There will be CAMPy solos, trios, and a good dose of humor!
The CAMP Chorus began singing in the fall of 2009 and performed in several different venues in 2009 and 2010. In December 2009, the Chorus sang at the World Aids Day Service at All Saints Church in Rehoboth Beach. In January, the Chorus presented its premier concert, Room for All, to a sold out audience at the Rehoboth Theatre of the Arts. In May, it took the show on the road to the Milton Theater, and in August, the Chorus sang for the patients at the Harbor Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lewes.
The Chorus provides an opportunity for residents from Rehoboth Beach to Georgetown and beyond to come together and sing. As part of CAMP Rehoboth’s mission as a gay and lesbian community service organization, the Chorus prides itself on being a voice of diversity and inclusiveness, for the gay community and our straight but not narrow allies who love to sing. Think adult “Glee Club” with the emphasis on glee. No audition is required, just a desire to sing and have fun doing it.
Choral Director Bill McManus is an honors graduate of the University of Hartford’s Hartt College of Music with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree.
Accompanist David Zipse is an accomplished solo performer and brings an amazing musical talent and energy to the group.
The Chorus is sponsored by CAMP Rehoboth, along with Go Fish! Seafood Restaurant on Rehoboth Avenue whose owner, Allison Blyth, generously contributes funding for the group to purchase music, venue rental, and so much more.
The CAMP Chorus is also supported through member dues, donations, and ticket sales. For information on becoming a financial supporter of the Chorus, or if you would like to sing with the Chorus, contact Barb Ralph at barbralph@verizon.net.
