SUNDANCE SUPPORTERS, SPONSORS & HOSTS. If you are interested in supporting Sundance this Labor Day weekend, you can learn more about these three categories and which one is best for you by visiting the Sundance web site at www.SundanceBenefit.com. In it's first year, 14 years ago, SUNDANCE raised $6,400. In 2000, the amount was $150,000. This could not have been done without the support of the Rehoboth community and beyond. If you're considering making a contribution to this year's event, keep in mind that The Sussex County AIDS Committee, Inc. and CAMP Rehoboth, Inc. (the beneficiaries) are both exempt as 501(a) organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions and gifts are tax deductible as charitable contributions. For more information call CAMP Rehoboth at 302-227-5620 or, again, visit www.SundanceBenefit.com.
CAMPSAFE OUTREACH VAN. The CAMPsafe Outreach Van will be conducting HIV Testing & Counseling on July 28th and August 11th at The Renegade Resort (4274 Hwy One) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For more information call Sal Seeley at 302-227-5620. CUP OF CARING FUNDRAISER. Sponsored by the Delaware HIV Consortium, "Cup of Caring" begins July 28th until August 4th to help raise money for the Michael Brossette Memorial Funda program that provides financial assistance for non-emergency needs to those living with HIV/AIDS. All you have to do is make a purchase at one of the participating businesses listed below, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Fund. For more information call 302-654-5471. Participating Businesses: Blue Moon, Blue Plate Diner, Brew Ha Ha, Browseabout Books, The Buttery, Caf Sol, Celsius, Cloud 9, The Coffee Mill, Dos Locos, Double L, Fusion, Iguana Grill, Jake's Seafood, La La Land, Lori's Caf, New Amsterdam, Ocean Club, Our Place, Stoney Lonen, Tutto Bene and Yum Yum. BEACH HOUSE NETWORK. January through May is the "busy season" for www.Beach HouseNetwork.com, a website that allows you to post an advertisement when you have shares to sell in your beach house or a house to rent on a weekly, monthly or annual basis. Even though the summer months are slow, a few rental listings have recently popped up on the site. For anyone in need of a weekly rental this summer, it's worth a look. Just go to www.BeachHouseNetwork.com and select "Rehoboth Beach" from the menu of beaches. PARTY CALENDAR UPDATE. More house parties and events on the way... On Saturday, July 28th from 5-8 p.m., 200 New Castle (Jon Dauphine, Drew Mitchell and Co.) is putting together a dirty cocktail party called "Dirty in Pink." From 6:30-8:30 p.m., you're invited to the home of Frank Surprenant and Chris Wisner at 1025 Scarborough Extention for the HRC National Dinner Kickoff. This is a great opportunity to sign up as a table captain. Then, from 9 p.m.-midnight, 312 Bayard, "B" Group invites you to a "Shoot Out at the K-Y Corral." Can't wait to see Jeff Swishler in chaps, no jeans! On Sunday, July 29th make plans to stay over 'til Monday because the Blue Moon Anniversary Party, "Moulin Bleu," will be the talk of the town. It's worth going just to see what Cliff Lassahn will have on. One of our favorite Drag Volleyball Queens, Barbara Anne a.k.a. Brent Minor (the one with the red lipstick who likes to tackle and kiss unsuspecting hotties in the crowd) is hosting the Gay & Lesbian Travel Show on Saturday, August 4th from 5-8 p.m. at the Atlantic Sands Hotel Ballroom. The hotel is located on the Boardwalk at Baltimore Avenue. Later that evening, 330 Beech Drive is hosting it's 7th annual Full Moon Party, entitled "Lunar Lagoon: A Tropical Full Moon." Hosts Randy Marshall and Tommy Gibson are promising dancing 'til dawn under a tent with DJ Robbie Leslie. Beech Drive is out near the Midway Movie Theater. Start organizing your carpool now or make arrangements to "cab it" with City Cab, 302-227-8294 or Seaport Taxi, 302-645-6800. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To Michael Cover who turned 39 on July 15th. Also celebrating recent birthdays are 321 Laurel's David Mazzoni and Lynden Armstrong...1015 5th Street's Tony Watkins...1 St. Michael's Joe Coates...1 Beachmark's Ron Bowman...and James Addy, John Brown, Joey Hoffman and Todd Bra of 7 Robinson Square. CHEERS! To female impersonator extraordinaire, Chris Peterson, who has a role in the upcoming movie, Rat Race, with Cuba Gooding, Jr. The movie's trailer is now airing on television. Look for the clip of Peterson as Lucille Ball. (Peterson is best known in Rehoboth for his show Eyecons at the Renegade.) BEACH HOUSE OF THE WEEK: 330 Beech. By now you've heard of their annual "Full Moon Party," which is a healthy 7 years old and counting. But that's not all. This is the only house in Rehoboth that actually lays down a dance floor out in the yard, erects a tent overhead (complete with lighting), and hires DJ Robbie Leslie to keep us dancing all night. Yes, that's right, I said "all night." This house party goes until dawn! To further elaborate the unique nature of this event, "Full Moon" is the only house party to host its own kickoff party at the Blue Moon. That's what I call promotion. Even the invitations (which aren't required to attend) are something to behold as they sometimes explode with glitter upon opening. With hosts Randy Marshall and Tommy Gibson, every detail counts. See for yourself on Saturday, August 4th from 9pm to dawn! BARTENDER OF THE WEEK: Cliff Lassahn. The illusionist made his debut at the Blue Moon on July 15th. Cliff was born to bartend. Stop by to see him. But if, by chance, when you order a "007" and Cliff says "we don't rent movies here"...please don't be too hard on him. WEEKEND WRAP-UP. Saturday, July 14th was another one of those days with so many events that only a robot could survive attending all of them. Between you and me, I'm beginning to wonder if Chris Riss is all human or part machine. How on earth does he do it?! Anyway, things started out at 113 Columbia, home of Wes Combs and Greg Albright. The occasion was a fundraiser for City Commissioner hopeful, Mark Aguirre. Next, it was a mad dash over to the Blue Moon to see the "Full Moon" i.e. the kickoff for the upcoming "Lunar Lagoon" bash at 330 Beech. This was followed by 216 Spring Lake's "Block Party" hosted by Kevin Litschgi and Hank Thomas, which was followed by 7 Robinson Square's Multi-Birthday Party in honor of Joey, John, James and Todd. Then it was back to Spring Lake (#723 this time) where Bob Kabel was hosting a "Log Cabin Republicans" party. Finally, it was time to eat. So with a little help from Payam Hariri's mom, a birthday dinner was served in honor of Joe Coates. Of all Joe's gifts, the one that intrigued everyone the most was the one in the driveway shaped as a BMW. Another intriguing element at a birthday party was at the 605 Scarborough celebration for Basar Akuzzu. Guests of this "Mourning Party" were asked to wear black veils and weep for Basar, who was turning 30. Hmmm....if 30 is considered old, then I suspect those at the party over 30 were weeping not for Basar, but for themselves. Sunday, July 15th it must have been "DJ night" at Cloud 9 since several well-known DJ's were seen mixing and mingling on the dance floor. DJ Buc (who spun earlier that weekend), DJ Brian Norwood (who spun over July 4th) and DJ Tommy Walton (known for Yum Yum tea) were dancing to the superb sounds of DJ Terry O'Connor. Joining them was Baltimore's Ricki Rutley and Philly Producer Dan Contarino. The music at Cloud 9 has been fabulous lately. (Look for Terry O'Connor's return to Cloud 9 on July 27th-29th). On Saturday, July 21st, 1 Robinson showed us that wearing bathing suits off the beach is just as fun as wearing them on the beach. Their tribute to BayWatch, re-titled "GayWatch: The Deep Rescue" was a successful after-the-beach bash. Just down the street, 707 Bayard hosted yet another dirty cocktail party thanks to housemom, Gary Lloyd. And more birthday surprises were in store for Tony Watkins and David Mazzoni at 1015 5th Street from 9 p.m.-midnight. Summer's not over yet...stay tuned for more! Do you have news to share?
