Dear Editor:
I am a candidate for the 4th County Council Seat of Sussex County, Delaware. I am running for this office because I believe there is a void in leadership in the 4th council district. The position calls for an individual with a track record of developing solutions and a vision of improving the unique Sussex County "Way of Life". I am a four term mayor, two term police commissioner, President of the Association of Coastal Towns, and President of the Dewey Beach Lions Club. During these many years of public service I have earned a reputation as a leader who works with people to develop consensus, and to implement sound, workable solutions. I believe that there is a big difference between an individual who simply points out problems, and one who solves those problems. My track record is one of leadership and problem solving. Many issues vital to the quality of life we enjoy have been confronted with no input or leadership from the incumbent. Two examples are beach replenishment and deteriorating water quality. While Sussex County government will not solve these problems alone, we nonetheless expect our elected leaders to participate in the problem solving process. If youre not part of the solution, youre probably part of the problem. My vision of Sussex County is impacted by the amount of growth we are experiencing. We are, by far, the fastest growing county in the State. We need to remember why people are attracted to Sussex County. We are a refuge from the urban and suburban sprawl that surrounds us. Yet, as I drive through the 4th district, I often see the results of poor planning, or poor implementation. The Sussex County "Way of Life" is not wall-to-wall strip malls. Its not a contest to see how many traffic lights we can fit on Route One. We need to protect the natural beauty that surrounds us, while planning for development that is sustainable, desired, and profitable. I look forward to bringing fresh energy and new perspectives to the office of 4th District Councilman. I am counting on the support of the readers of LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth. Sincerely, Bob Frederick Candidate, 4th Council District Hi everyone, My name is Cindy Waxer and Im a writer for Jump magazine, an international teen magazine catering primarily to girls, ages 15 to 25. Im interested in interviewing a lesbian couple who attended their high school prom togethereither this spring or the spring before. The article is intended to demonstrate how a lesbian couple stuck to their principles and attended a typical high school promas a coupledespite the surrounding controversy. Jump believes that such a story will inspire other lesbian and gay couples who feel isolated from their peers and left out of the whole high school prom scene. Please note that Jump will need to take photos of the couple for publicationwhich means the couple must be comfortable with their sexual identity and, obviously, out of the closet. If you qualify and would like to be interviewed, please call me collect at 416-222-3384, or e-mail cwaxer@sprint.ca If you decide to e-mail me, please be sure to leave your number so that I can call you back. Thanks, Cindy Waxer |
