A.R. Gurney's Love Letters to be a Rehoboth Valentine |
Love Letters, the charming romantic comedy by playwright A.R. Gurney, will make an appearance in Rehoboth Beach, just in time for Valentine's Day. The show, to be presented by Fay J. Productions, in collaboration with the Rehoboth Art League, will have two performances only, at the Chambers Studio at the Art League on Sunday, February 13.
Love Letters is a funny, touching, two-person play about a lifelong friendship, told entirely through letters. From their first scrawled valentines of childhood to their last goodbyes, Melissa and Andrew write their way from grade school through middle age in a play that's just perfect for Valentine's weekend. The show, which took Broadway by storm in 1989, has since been presented all over the country and the world, starring many high profile theatrical couples. The Rehoboth production, under the direction of Fay Jacobs, will star veteran Washington-area performers Stacey Fearheiley and Eric C. Peterson, who have a long professional history starring together in both comic and dramatic productions. Their many credits include productions of Lend Me A Tenor, and The Heidi Chronicles. Peterson was last seen in Rehoboth on Labor Day, performing at SUNDANCE as Falwell nemesis Tinky-Winky. Director Jacobs, whose theatrical resume includes more than 25 years of professional productions in the Washington, DC area was last represented at the beach with the sold-out run of the musical revue Razzle Dazzle at La Rosa Negra Restaurant in Lewes. Peterson, who will read the role of Andrew in Love Letters, performed in Lewes in that production. "I'm delighted to be coming back to the beach for Love Letters," says Peterson, "It really is a valentine of a show for the actorsand the audience. " The technical staff for Fay J. Productions includes veteran stage designer Don Gardiner, who will be assisting in the task of turning the Art League's Chambers Studio into an intimate and comfortable theatre space. "It's really a versatile room," says director Jacobs, "with platforms to an elevated stage, so the audience should have a good view of the actors. By adding a few theatrical gels, the same spotlights used to light the artist's models will provide terrific stage lighting." Love Letters will be presented for two shows only on February 13 at the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodd's Lane, Henlopen Acres, Rehoboth Beach. The two shows are at 1 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $10.
