CAMP Safe:The Party Starts Now |
by Salvatore Seeley |
CAMPsafe welcomes the Summer of 2002. We predict that this summer will be full of intrigue, romance, fun and of course-good sex! CAMPsafe is ready to make sure that we all have a good time while at the beach and play safe! Having fun at the beach for some might mean drinking a bit more, experimenting with drugs, and looking for sex partners. What is the saying? Sex, drugs and rock and roll! Well, CAMPsafe has decided to look at this theme for the summer of 2002.
What if we were to start our own music company? How do you incorporate safer sex and music? Well, we decided to put a campy twist on some of our favorite music styles. Our safer sex single campaign marks the start of the CAMPsafe 2002 season. Starting Memorial Day weekend, we will start distributing our safer-sex single condom packets and begin our popular postcard campaign. Look for our CD cover postcards at various bars and guesthouses in Rehoboth. Our collector postcards will be distributed throughout the summer. We have some rather hunky looking men on our cards to help us get out some important messages about safer sex. This year's postcards are sure to be a solid gold hit! Along with our postcards and safer sex packs, we will be holding several CAMPsafe events this summer to help promote the importance of safer sex while on vacation. Keep an eye out for our schedule of events in the upcoming issues of Letters. We will be having outreach events at various bars this summer. If you spot us at the bar or on the beach, come on over and say hello! So you don't get burned, CAMPsafe, in cooperation with Beebe Medical Center, will be handing out sunscreen packets and condoms as part of our efforts to ensure a safe and healthy beach season. We will be around to answer any questions you have about HIV/STDS and sex. In addition to our outreach events, we will still be offering sexual health counseling and HIV testing and Counseling at our office on Baltimore Avenue. Starting June 5th, we will be offering Sexual Health Counseling and HIV Testing and Counseling from 5-9 p.m. every other Wednesday throughout the summer. Other times throughout the week are available by appointment. Please come by to say hello and get tested. CAMPsafe wants to acknowledge those who have helped create our 2002 campaign. Thanks to the CAMPsafe models who donated their time to help us out with the photo shoot for our cards. If you see them around town, please thank them. Also, we wanted to give a shout out to Beach Essentials. They supplied us with wardrobe for our models. They have some really awesome clothes in their shop-stop in and take a look at their new clothing lines! In order to make our program successful for the summer, we still are in need of some help. The CAMPsafe program is for the community and we would like as much guidance from it as possible. Here are some ways that you can get involved this year: Condom stuffers needed! Our second condom stuffing party will take place on June 4th from 5 p.m until you get tired. Join us at CAMP Rehoboth as we prepare packets for the summer. Dinner is provided. We still have a job opening for the summer of 2002. A part time outreach worker is needed for the CAMPsafe program to work with the program director to distribute safer sex packets, help with the tea-dances and distribute safer sex packets at house parties and guest houses. Contact Sal at 227-5620 for more information. Calling all beach houses! CAMPsafe is looking for Beach houses to get their creative juices flowing by sponsoring a safer sex tea dance. We need help decorating, staffing information tables and handing out condoms at the CAMPsafe tea dances this summer. Who can put on the most fabulous tea dance? Most attended tea dance will win a special prize. Call Sal at 227-5620 for dates and to signup to be a sponsor. Okay, enough with the announcements! We all come to the beach to have a good time! Whether it's drinking having wild sex or catching some rays, remember-you're on vacation, HIV is not. Your community needs you, enjoy yourself and play safe. |
