CAMP Safe: Safe Is Sexy |
by Sal Seeley |
Hey Guys! It is summertime again! Get those sexy suits on and meet us at the beach, look for us in the bars, visit us at CAMP and even catch us online! We are here to help you make your sexy summer a safe sexy summer.
CAMPsafe staff is proud to mark the official start of Summer 2003 and its "safe is sexy" campaign. For the past five years, the CAMPsafe program has been making a difference in the sexual lives of gay men who either live in Rehoboth or those who come here for some fun. Each year the campaign has centered on a different theme. This year is no exception. Drum roll please... The theme of this year's summer campaign is Safe is sexy: healthy community is your responsibility. We are here to offer you the tools and knowledge to make safe sex sexy and to help you do your part to take responsibility for yourself and your partners. You have spent the past couple of months watching what you eat and exercising so that your beautiful body will be as hot as it can be. You have selected the sexiest swimsuits to show off what you have and I will bet your closet is already getting the right selection of the perfect things to wear out and about. Don't forget your condoms! In fact, come and see us for the sexiest condoms you will find. We have a selection of various sizes, shapes, colors and styles to make you even sexier. Find the ones that look the sexiest and feel the best for you. If you need some suggestions on making them more comfortable to wear...we can help with that too. In fact, we can answer most of your questions about making safe sex sexy and fun. Call us. Stop by. Make an appointment if you wish to discuss any and all of your concerns. We are here to be your resource! Not only do we offer a wide selection of fashionable condoms at CAMP, we also make packets available to you at most of the area bars. Look for our packets with a condom, a packet of lube and some simple instructions. If you don't see them, ask for them. Don't leave without them! You will also find us frequently on the beach and at the barsdon't be shy, say hello! Come by to get some condoms and lube and ask away about any questions you may have. We love to answer those questions! Did you know that we are even online in many of the chat rooms? We can answer your questions in the privacy of your own computer if you like! Just ask! We are easy to find. Now that we have covered the fun stuff, don't forget to look in Letters to see when and where we are doing our fabulous tea dances and summer house parties. We really are here to be a resource to you and the community. Use us! If you should find that you really enjoy what we do, you too can become a part of it. We need volunteers to help with packaging condoms and distributing them, as well as making the house parties and other things a success. If you want to be a part of making it happen then don't waste any time. Call us! We would love to have you as a part of the summer experience here. Just like the condoms we offer, there is something for everyone in our volunteer department! So, don't forget! Summer is a tempting time here in Rehoboth both for locals and those who come here to have fun. Gay men should accept that an active sex life involves taking responsibility for your health and the health of your partner. This includes getting checked regularly for sexually transmitted infections (STI's) and getting an HIV test to know your status. It is cool to practice discussing your results with your prospective partners. We can help you with this, too. BUT PLEASE DON'T FORGET! HIV isn't the only thing you need to worry about or be knowledgeable about. Just when you thought you had it all covered there is more. Even if you are being safe by wearing a condom for sex, you are at risk for catching STI's, such as syphilis and gonorrhea. We are here to help you get the answers to your questions. Call CAMP Rehoboth at 302-227-5620. We are ready to start the summer with a bang! We want you to start yours with one, too. Let us help you be sure that it's a bang, not a bust! CAMPsafe is an HIV/AIDS education and prevention program funded by a contract with the Delaware Division of Public Health. For more information, call 302-227-5620. |
